I am looking for actual opening dimensions and / or better yet what size rectangle will fit in the trunk given the lip and inside wheel wells. Any photos / videos would be appreciated as well. ( i.e. will it fit my i14 Hobie kayak.. )

Also has anyone been able to confirm that the back seats fold all the way down?

Do you mean flat and flush with the trunk floor?

Funny you posted that. I was asking because I too want to confirm that and that's why I was looking for more detail from you.

Someone needs to borrow Franz's car again. :D This is the sort of thing Bjorn or some other real tester needs to do, wring the car out with questions we care about....

From the picture above, looks like it's not perfectly vertically rectangular, if you see what I mean.... that top corner where it curves at the lid's edge may be the widest part?

If the opening is really 18.5"x42" (47x107 cm) and 81" (206 cm) bed length, it will fit my road bike without removing front wheel - sweet!

There was a comment in the Motor Trend review that Franz is an avid cyclist; I bet that's already been tested!

I suspect that the 18.5" was measured from the upper rim to the lower on an angle. The true vertical dimension would be less.
I measured the opening on my 2006 BMW 325xi for comparison and the Tesla is bigger in both dimensions by a few inches.
I've gotten some reasonably large items in the trunk with the seats down on my car, although it can take some effort figuring out how to maneuver oddly shaped items over the bottom of the opening.
I'd say this will be fine for "most" people trying to move normal sized objects.
Hopefully you will have, or have access to larger cars when truly needed.

yes .. I am looking for the vertical hight trunk bed clearance to below the rear window opening, not the diagonal opening dimension.

Also the depth is important for carrying luggage and boxes from the airport when F+F visit. It's nice that they give seats down dimensions and width, but a simple dimension of cube would be nice to have

I've loaded up a few cars where I couldn't fit a guitar amp into either the trunk or the back seat - putting me into a serious panic before a gig! I've sworn that I'd never buy a car that had that problem, but now I'm a little nervous about the model 3. I hadn't thought about that 18.5" measurement being diagonal!

I would love to get more clarity on the trunk dimensions too.
