Tesla uses a modified version of Ubuntu for its OS, and I believe the problem is that they use Gnome as the UI, but then you install the stock, non-Gnome Spotify. You can find the Ubuntu-Gnome fix at pkgs.org, where they suggest:

- Install repository GPG key:# sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 94558F59
- Add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list:deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free
- Update the package index:# sudo apt-get update
- Install spotify-client-gnome-support deb package:# sudo apt-get install spotify-client-gnome-support
