Any way to get safely on 4 jack stands?

There's enough clearance - especially since the side you just raised is still airborne. Not only that - but the passenger-side of the car is now a little "de-compressed" and you can comfortably slide the jack + Rennstand into either end on the other side. Maybe this story will change once I finally get around to installing my MPP coilovers, but for now, it's no problem on the standard suspension.

I really need to start getting some videos together for you guys... it's on my list, but I've been busy quarantine-drinking.

Okay, let's play this out (since I haven't put the car up on 4 jackstands). Now, we have the car up on 4 stands using what you suggest above. Now, how do you get it down without using a non-specified jacking point? Easy, you can't. Its a problem. You need to use parts of the suspension for this purpose. Tesla should have put a front and rear jack pad on. I guess they really don't want people without lifts to work on these cars though :)

Thanks. What I was *really* looking for was a set of tall nylon spacers that are 0.75" ID and 1" OD... doesn't seem to exist.

Safe jack is over priced. You could just buy four jacks for cheaper. In the teslarati demo video they are using a $59 harbor freight Jack to setup a $159 jack stand. Don't buy it for that rediculous price.

Late reply, do you have first hand experience with these jackstands? Can you just put a standard rubber Model 3 jack pad on it? Thx.

so i just had to do this to paint my calipers and weighed the idea of the quick jack vs jackstands. i went with 2 safejacksand 2 ksco flat jackstands.

my car is lowered so even with my low profile jack, i cant fit the jack and jackpad let alone the jack and safejack piece. i keep 4 10" sections of 2x10s in the garage and drive up on it to get the floor jack and safe jacks under the rear jack point.

next i jack the rear up high enough to get the ksco flat jackstand & puck under the front, add the safe jack feet and one side is done. repeat on the other side being VERY cognizant that when raising and lowering the 2nd side of the car that things may have shifted on the first side. (i1telsa points this out in his video too)

reverse the order when done

Burrito- after reading everyone suggestions, I think your approach is the best mix of realistic cost and safety. However I'm not only having trouble finding the ESCO flat top stands (amazon says out of stock until AUG), but even the Rennstands are backordered. If I break down and grab the red "tesla rennstands" (assuming in stock), would you trust these? https://www.amazon.com/Torin-Big-Aluminum-Jack-Stands/dp/B0007XTGCI/ or do you know of any other quality stands with a flat top? These Torins get good reviews, but would you trust the tops of these against a jack puck? Thanks!

Too lazy to go back & read exactly what your intention is with these - but I've heard through the grapevine some S2000 kid got killed using those a number of years ago. I think the car toppled over - those bases are uncomfortably narrow IMO.

BTW I'm planning on selling my Rennstands soon - will try to remember to let you guys know if I post a thread in Classifieds.

Hey @Dolemite did you take down the video? Pretty cool idea to mod the rennstands. I think I might do these to mine as well. Also the picture describing the problem in your first post is broken.

@Daniellane did you ever mod yours? How do you like it after?

@Dolemite Just curious what are your replacements going to be?

Yeah - my solution didn't end up being as resilient as I'd like, so I took it down. I don't want to tell people to do stuff that sucks. It's still effective, but not good enough. In regards to the images - my imgur account got all hosed up, but my post still makes the point w/ the videos.

For someone who dicks around with cars as much as I do, it might make sense to invest in a QuickJack system. I just hate how bulky it is... basically instead of having a jack + some jack stands, now I'll have to have a massive system with massive 80-pound thingies PLUS my huge floor jack taking up space. I'm still a bit on the fence about it, but if anyone's interested... feel free to PM me.

***A word of caution about the Rennstands by Safe Jacks***

I'd made a thread about this a while ago, but it was pointlessly merged & disappeared into another thread, so few people ever saw it.

Even used correctly (I've verified this with the owner of the company... and I've been messing with cars for 20+ years), these are highly likely to end up denting your jack points *a little bit.* I don't like it because I'm anal, but objectively, I don't think it's a big deal because function isn't impaired and it doesn't appear to be getting worse. (Also, aluminum is "work hardened" after it's bent - hopefully someone smarter than me can chime in on this.)

He told me a few months ago he's "working on a solution" on this, but have yet to hear anything and haven't followed-up (yet) because small companies are freaking the F out at the moment.

Here's what I'm talking about:

pDA14XS.jpg

Note I've intentionally made the lighting make it look worse to illustrate my point.

My case doesn't appear to be unique - you can see the same thing at

And 3:13 here:

In any case, I'm working on a solution of my own to ensure I prevent any further deformation and I'll probably make a thread about what I've come up with. Hopefully it doesn't get buried into some 900-page thread about jack points.

I still prefer to use these over something like the QuickJack system, which seems to be a cumbersome PITA for someone who's not lifting cars on a daily or even weekly basis. I just wish the TM3 jack points were a little bit tougher...

Yeah I’ll echo that these jack stands put your car in extreme angles with the jack points, especially if your car is lowered. My car’s points are bent up, and the rennstand tesla jack point adapters are bent up too. I also didn’t feel safe with the teetering of the car while lowering or raising. I swapped to a QuickJack: 5000EXT. 5000EXT was lightest in my situation, but still 90-100lbs per side. Too bad it won’t be rated for cybertruck, but I’ll probably just keep that stock.
