Any way to split out home charging from regular energy bill?

Hi all.

I'm picking up my M3LR on Saturday (only two weeks after ordering it - I feel like Christmas has come early!) and I had a question around charging at home.

1. We can't switch energy supplier at the minute (because of the energy company issues), but is there any way to split out the electricity used on the Tesla from the rest of the household? My wife and I pay Bulb from our joint account, and I'd rather split out my car's electricity for me to pay for myself. We don't yet have a home charger installed so will be relying on the 3-pin for the time being.

2. Is there a way for the car to tell you exactly how much you've spent in £ from home charging, or is this just available when using superchargers/out of home chargers? It would be great to have a total figure for all electricity put into the vehicle, to help compare against my current Diesel car.

Thanks!

The car will only tell you how much super charging costs. It doesn't know what tariff you're on.

In terms of tracking your charging you could use an app like ev.energy or TeslaFi to record all your charges. I don't use TeslaFi, but ev.energy knows your tariff so it lists how much your home charging costs.

you can use that app in 2 ways cant you? connect to the car or the charger if the charger is compatible.
If you are using it connected to the car it will only report what the car recognises it receives. The actual usage at the charger will be something like 10% higher so if you are trying to monitor actual energy use you need to take that into account. If you are connecting to the charger it will be accurate.

I would suggest to stay away from any sort of plug in monitor as an FYI.

An EV pulls a constant 10A (not 13A, as BS1363 UK plugs are rated to 13A for short periods like the kettle not for prolonged periods which is why its 10A). I would not trust any plug in device with that sort of prolonged load.

Ideally you want something that uses a CT clamp on the circuit (clamp goes around the live) your charging from as it does not require a direct connection, but probably a bit too much for your requirement - app sounds the best answer :)

If you use Octopus Go or other Off Peak Tariff then it should be pretty clear what you use every night and so not too hard to extrapolate. This won't get you accuracy to 1-2 kWH's but at 5p each that might not matter.

I recommend TeslaFi to keep a track on how much your charging is costing. Also keeps track of all journeys you make and how much they cost including you efficiency, along with many other features. Best viewed on a PC screen tho...

Tessie does this very well, funny enough I was checking mine out yesterday as I've just completed my first full month at my new job, which is a much longer commute than what I used to have.

Very satisfying seeing how much it cost me in electric vs what it would have cost me in fuel.

Just downloaded Tessie. Looking through the desktop dashboard it looks amazing - can't wait to start seeing the data as it goes.

I've added my electricity kWh cost, but can't see where I'd enter the fuel cost - could you let me know where that is? A direct comparison per journey would be really interesting to see.

I download my usage by half-hour into an Access database and can summarise by day or month

I'm currently using TeslaMate to do this, with a custom dashboard filtered on just home as the location. Seems to work well. Shame I can't get an emailed monthly report out of it though (at least I can't work out how to do it)
