I was not able to get any pictures or video, but the other day, and after an over-the-air update, I plugged in my 2014 S85 and the ring around the charge port put on a psychedelic light show, including purple, which I had never seen.

The colors sort of softly progressed from one to the other. I often have it cycle through colors and click as it tries to seat properly, that is not what happened here.

Anyone else, and theories? I saw the rainbow road for AP cars.

Yes, I was totally sober at the time.

Yes I had that problem as well. It started with one section of the ring being off in color then progressed around the whole ring over subsequent days. It still worked fine though. Eventually brought the car in to have them look and they replaced the charger port.

I had it from water leaking into the ring. Next time I had it in for service I had the SC take a look and they replaced the ring. For me it had no impact other than cosmetic.

    Thanks to Kevin Schreiber.
To get this to work I had to stop the charging. Put a scheduled time in so you see the blue light before you press it ten times:

I had that happen to me on accident a while ago. Didn't realize it was an Easter egg. Thanks for the post

My charge port is really touchy. I honestly don't think I pressed the button 10 times...could have though. I was surely hitting the button and wiggling the UMC a bunch though.

I guess you could have been the first person to discover it! Now I'm going to go over my car and press everything I can 10 times.

How does someone "accidentally" hit the button 10 times?

Wow. When I first saw his video it only had 100 views on Sunday. Almost 200,000 views now. Easter egg turned into golden egg eh? :)

It's an easter egg but probably also useful for Tesla to test that all the different colored diodes work... like a sort of diagnostic for the colored lighting.

I find it tricky to do. I can't seem to do it when it is actively charging. I have to stop the charge by setting a charge time so the port turns blue. Then it seems like the first click doesn't count. So its more like 11 clicks.

It worked on my P90D... need to click in rapid succession. My kids love the easter eggs and every once in awhile come up with a suggestion to try. We have yet to discover an egg on our own.

You can make the charger light cycle through many colors of the rainbow, by plugging in the charger to the charge port, then clicking the button on the charge handle 10 times.

    See video.
