Hi Folks,
I'm leaning towards a new inventory/showroom 2018 MX 75d, 7 seater with 50 miles and wonder if anyone else here has bought a inventory/showroom MX?
I'm concerned about some wear and tear to the seats, doors, etc... and wanted to see if you've experienced that on your MX.
Since a new order with 100d batter is only 9k more, I'm debating if it's worth getting a showroom model.
Thanks

Welcome to the fold and Congrats on your decision to buy an X! It's a fantastic vehicle! I always felt that the showroom vehicles have been sat in by so many people, lots of kids with ice cream and snot on their hands, seat backs may have been kicked and what not. If you have kids yourself that might not matter that much to you. Just check out the vehicle thoroughly before signing. On the other hand, I would definitely buy the larger battery if you can swing it. Firstly for peace of mind (the large surface of the X eats away at your mileage) and secondly for the resale value. Just imagine trying to sell a 60 battery these days. Can only sell it through discount pricing.

I just received mine yesterday which was from inventory! 600 miles on it and it seems brand new. No complaints yet, and a very enjoyable experience. You get it at a discount and you don’t have to wait a month for it to arrive! Great system

But: don’t get it from inventory if it’s not the one you want. If you really like the 100d, it might be worth it to pull the trigger. All preference at that point.

My experience with buying inventory was great, and if you can find the right one for you it is really nice. Confirmed my purchase over the weekend and had it by Tuesday.

My 100D that I got in December was inventory. I bought it sight unseen. Turns out it only had about 10 miles on it and there was no sign of any wear and tear. I guess they can be inventory without actually being in a showroom.

I would lean toward the bigger battery be it new or inventory. The real usable range of my 75D is under 200 miles. That works for me, but I work from home and rarely travel more than 50 miles from home. If you drive more than that you may find the 100 a better option.

Well, 50 miles means the car has likely never seen the road. Even if it was actually a showroom car, I wouldn't expect any significant wear and in a couple months you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a car straight off the production line.

Mine was a 9 month old showroom with 7,700 miles and I've never regretted the choice.

That said, for $9k more I would seriously consider a Long Range (100D) or look for a showroom 100D. The X is the worst efficiency of the 3 models with even the 100D getting shorter range than the Model 3 LR. If you know you'll be fine with the shorter range and/or have a backup vehicle for trips and the $9k makes or breaks the deal, then it's still a great vehicle.

Does it actually have 50 miles on it or is that only what the vehicle description is showing? I believe 50 miles is always stated unless it goes over, so the actual miles could be significantly less. Lots of these inventory cars have never seen a public showroom and are basically just pre-configured brand new Tesla's.

We bought a 6 month old X75 at the end of last year for a 25% discount off list. Depending on where you live, the 75 can suffer from range "loss" in the winter to a point where you won't get any where close to 200mi range. If you do any road trips at all you will need to charge more frequently than you think since the superchargers are not going to be optimally spaced/distanced for your car and trip. X is a thirsty EV, spring for the bigger battery if you can.

my p90d was almost a year old and had a little over 1100 miles on it.

i couldn't pick the car up for almost a month after i put down the deposit, (even though it was local), because it needed rims to be fixed up, 2 chairs replaced due to the insane amount of wear from the showroom and myriads of other little things...

a new car will have the latest hardware and you will know your getting a much better car as the realistic range will be around 250 instead of 200....

From my experience, buying an inventory MX was by far the best option. My story is summarized here: 2017 VIN Model X Order and Delivery

I used EV-CPO.com from @HankLloydRight and found exactly our desired configuration in an existing inventory car. It had the newest VIN number I saw on the site at that time (plus it was a palindrome), and included all the latest options which you can check via that site (or via the Tesla link cited from which you can scrape all the options). At that time it was AP2.5, plus PUP features had migrated to standard, was uncorked, etc. Strangely, the car had a significant discount but was listed as a new “50” miles. Using the price histogram on the site then (and even after I bought it), it was the absolute lowest price sold for those options. I went to Tesla and asked them to confirm the options, and learned that the car was still on the assembly line! Placed the order (at that time there was also the 0.99% financing promotion) and picked up directly at factory with no delivery charge applied. There were a few snags, like a missing tow package and the adaptive LED headlights, but Tesla took care of these either before final delivery (lights) or later at Service center (tow package). In addition they later added the HEPA filter and biodefense mode at no charge when I asked to pay for an upgrade. It was a great experience and is an awesome car.

If I want to be critical, I would say the only thing that could have made it incrementally better was to opt for a larger battery, as mentioned above. But practically it would have only made a difference for 1 trip in 1.5 years. With young kids on a long trip we are stopping more often for supercharging than a larger battery would afford anyway. So think about your usage scenarios. For us it was the right choice. We also removed autopilot before purchase to minimize current and future registration costs. Now it is clear that was the right decision given the drastic discount on autopilot software, but it could have gone the other way. (We just purchased the autopilot on fire sale before price increase promised on Monday).

I bought aa 2017 sept. AP 2.0. No regrets. It's a cost benefit decision. Mine was discounted $13,500. Those days may be past. It had 1K miles on it. Equipped just like I wanted it--color, everything. While they generally don't negotiate--they are less firm with inventory. They won't budge on price, but I got a higher bump on my trade-in and free one year service. In addition they were really good at fixing any "discoveries" after the sale. Couldn't be happier. Just bought the FSD upgrade--And oh--lifetime supercharging. Still getting admiring comments. Got two "wow!" comments today at car wash and grocery store. PU truck guy--typical redneck-- stopped and said "Did that door just open itself? I just smiled.

Hi Big John.
I settled on the 75d inventory model. How did you get a bump on your trade-in and free one year service? Can you negotiate with the delivery service specialist?

I bought a "showroom" model but it never made it to the showroom, it still had factory plastic on it. My X was built in August, and i was driving it September. Its a p100d. The color didnt matter to me since i knew i was gonna vinyl wrap it, and it has all the bells and whistles. I love it, no regrets glad to have saved a few K buying a "showroom" model.

No issues with car at all yet, 1 trip to the SC but it was for the new security upgrade. Would highly recommend.

Please note: with tesla the year model of the car doesnt matter as much as the month.
There could be varitations in a model even tho its the same year, theres 2 2018 model X for example.

This was in 9/17. They even drove a MX to my house (70 miles away) for a test drive! I was equivocating as to whether to buy. It was at the end of a quarter and they were trying to push them out. I simply asked if there was anything they could do to sweeten the pot. I let it go for a day or so and they called back. I think I negotiated with the chief honcho at the SC. While Tesla does not dicker like most dealers, they do have some creative alternatives if they are motivated. But again, those days may be gone. Frankly, I fell in love with the car so I was pretty weak.
