Anyone Ever Get a 'Bonus' for End of Quarter Purchase?

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on an S at the end of this month or beginning of next. Has anyone been successful in squeezing a perk to close the deal at quarter end? Traditional dealers go a long way to get the extra sale at month/quarter end, however Tesla seems to be pretty firm on 'no deals'. Thanks.

Especially not in a quarter that they are probably trying to "nerf" US deliveries. (Not that they do anyhow.)

The one exception is if they have made changes to the cars and they want to clear out their inventory/loaner/demo units to make room for the new ones. In those cases they do sometimes offer good "showroom" discounts.

The only "bonus" I've gotten having taken 2 of my 3 Tesla deliveries at EOQ was a rushed experience while dealing with an overworked Delivery Specialist...

Took delivery 2 days before X-mas in 2016. That was Tesla's monster quarter. I got a pen (which I lost) and a keyfob holder I don't use (and a mug which I use even though it got a chip in it 1 week after I got it). So swag but they actually ran out of some swag so the earlier deliveries were even luckier than I was.

Just hope your car is well built. There is no better bonus with Tesla.

If you did a factory delivery I think there was free food trucks for the 100's M3 they were delivering... They used to have a package for new cars, umbrella, cups or the like, but it was locations doing it versus corporate wide. It ws mostly done last summer so it is rare now. At the end it was two leather FOB covers and they were out of those when I got mu Nov 2017 delivery. :-(

There us an old thread aboutwhat people got on delivery... have to search for it.

There have been some especially good end of quarter deals (discounts and/or reduced APR) but those have mostly been on new inventory cars.

However, when looking at new inventory cars, the discounts can sometimes be misleading especially on older stock as Tesla may have revised standard/optional equipment and related pricing since a particular inventory car was built. A similarly equipped fresh order car may have a lower retail price than the full retail (before discounts) price of an inventory car therefore making the discount on the inventory car not quite as good as it appears to be.

The only gamble that might be worth considering is seeking an inventory car the first week of July. I imagine they're in the process of refreshing showroom cars with Graphite trim. They almost certainly won't unleash these on the public until post July-1st due to the tax credit, but they are also pushing hard to make Q3 profitable. Note the consensus is that there's not really much negotiating on these. The discounts are usually based on a predefined formula given # of mile, etc [they're often showroom/loaner cars sold as new but with milage]. In other words, there might be more selection of discounted cars, but not necessarily more room to negotiate. All of this is speculation.

As others have said, Tesla just doesn’t operate like a traditional car company. When you have more demand than supply, life is quite grand as they say. The key metrics appear the be focused on revenue, profit (or loss) and deliveries. They do talk about “sales” which one can equate to orders, this demonstrates demand and pipeline if you will. The company can not recognize revenue for cars until they are delivered. So if you think about a model S, sure they appreciate the 2,500 deposit paid on order (it helps cash flow for sure - which they can always use), they can’t recognize the 80-100k+ of revenue for a model S until it is delivered. This is in some ways why you see deliveries back end loaded in the quarter (that and logistics) because they are trying to recognize revenue for as many cars as they can for that given quarter to drive the companies profit (or loss).

I've noticed that one of the 3rd party sites has over 700 new inventory cars listed!

None of those cars have been listed publicly anywhere for sale by Tesla. In many cases, they aren't even built yet. People have had problems trying to order these unlisted/unpublished cars, since the Sales Associates don't even know about them. Just because the 'detail' page is available does not mean the actual cars are.(It's like a quirk of the Tesla production systems feeding new data to the web team.) Also, most of those cars/listings do not yet have a location attribute assigned so they're likely not started, or even out of production yet, much less available for purchase or delivery. Sites that find and list these cars usually do so by testing thousands of all possible VIN combinations looking for ones that "hit" and publishing those results. It's easy code to write, but it ends up hammering the Tesla servers needlessly with lots of "misses".

Since the disposition of these cars is unknown, it's our policy to only list and re-publish cars that have actually been listed for sale by Tesla.

Because you might get a call from Tesla telling you the car isn't actually built or available for sale or delivery. How many times do you want to go through the website to buy an unlisted car and put down a $2500 deposit, only to be told the car isn't actually available?

Like I said, just because that detail page is available does not mean you can buy that car.

Tesla are well known for not showing all the cars they have, I remember a discussion a while back saying they had no CPO and then a few days later they had a few hundred. There's clearly a massive gap between your site which has no new inventory and one that has several hundred, I think we should just let people make up their own minds. Your warnings are appreciated, but as I said, if I was looking I'd prefer to at least try a car that appeared to exist than have no choice and no option.

Tesla used to give away some SWAG with earlier Model S or X deliveries.

Problem was that people began to expect it, and even demand it. Made it super uncomfortable for a delivery specialist that ran out of an item.

Believe it started when a delivery team would leave a cap in the frunk. Kind of an Easter Egg delight for the new owner to discover after getting home.

Then it was a boxed Tesla Pen or key chain fob. Little delights. Problem was when everyone began to brag about what they got, post pictures, and customers that did not get the goodies, for one reason or the other began to call back in and demand that they too should get the goodies.

Think it all got kind of out of hand, and as the company got busier it just made more sense to get the focus off the goodies and back on the vehicle.

Used to also have pastries and coffee in the delivery waiting areas. Really very nice, but had to be a hassle for a busy specialist to keep refilling while they were under the pressure to get all the cars delivered on schedule.

It was something nice for the beginning early adopters, but the pressure is now on to become profitable and efficient to get all those waiting into their cars and on their way to the ownership experience.

Reminded me of years ago when you would get a glass or pack of Kleenex when you bought a fill up of gas, or perhaps a toaster when you would open up a new banking account.

Currently the most frequently desired perk is finding free wi-fi or clean restroom.

Yes,it's well known that Tesla does not list on their website every new or used vehicle for sale. We do not know why they do this, but they obviously have their reasons.

There is not such a thing as "no option". I get asked very frequently "what's the best way to find the car I want?" and in every case I tell people the most important thing to do is contact a Tesla Sales Associate, because they have access to a much larger inventory of new and used cars that are never listed on their or any other website (it's been this way for years now). But at least you know that any car that a SA finds for you is actually available for sale. That's the your choice to make if you do or do not want to work with a SA to find the car matching your criteria. But do not rely solely just on our site or anyone else's.

Most of the cars listed on these other sites, we just don't know the source or disposition of them. I'm not telling people what to do or not to do, it's a free country-- do whatever you want. Sure, go ahead and try, no skin off our back. I'm just warning people that see 700 inventory cars for sale and think that they're all available. I can't tell you which ones are or are not available for purchase, but I can tell you that not all of them are.

You're also taking a chance with your $2500 deposit on a car or cars that you may never see or get. At that point, your deposit become non-refundable (see policy below). You may be able transfer it to a different car or a new build, though, but that's a hassle because then you have to find a car and talk to a SA to move your deposit to a second or third car, and you can't do that with the "BUY NOW" button without putting down another $2500 deposit.

There's clearly a massive gap between your site which has no new inventory and one that has several hundred,

We take the attitude that we're working with Tesla to sell the cars that they want to sell. It's not up to us to decide for Tesla to help them sell cars they clearly DO NOT want to list or make available for sale. We respect their decisions to run their business how they want to run it. If that means not listing hundreds of cars that appear to be available for sale, so be it. It's not just about the numbers of how many cars are on one site or another. It's about respecting what Tesla wants to do, and respecting the buyers by not showing them cars that Tesla doesn't want to sell and may not be available.
