It seems odd that someone with a 3xxx order number would be in the first batch, but Tesla's selection process is more than a bit inscrutable.. I'll just have to assume there's method in the madness..

Well mine is a 4xxx order number so you’ve just given me hope, which is dangerous :D

Honestly, I think it’s simply based on what they have available and who can pay now for quarter end.

From the States - margin, money, available machine and flexibility seemed to rule.

Margin - higher margin deals were preferred. Though no objections to selling any available vehicle.

Money - easiest to close deals seemed to move to front of line. Loan or trade-in complicated close, added uncertainty. These deals still closed, might not have been top-of-list when shipments arrived.

Machine - if you were willing to relax your criteria, it was easier to find a match sooner.

A day or two after I was contacted to schedule delivery, I connected these dots. E-mailed the delivery specialist to explain our funds were ready (money), we would be happy to accept delivery of a LR 3DP- (margin) as early as they had one available.

Got a call the next day, delivery scheduled one week sooner. Early the week of delivery, emailed to ensure car was in town and ready. Also explained I worked near delivery SC, could accept almost any day/time (flexibility).

Delivery was two days earlier than before. My wife loves her 3. I gladly adopted her S100D.

Finance options are limited (no PCP option!) and then there was the sudden spec change and price reductions to mess up many original orders. So I'm not that surprised people are jumping ahead in the queue. There must be loads of people waiting for PCP finance and changing their spec. Not to mention all those reservation holders who were hoping for a cheaper base model who have probably now cancelled.

There seems to be a mix of spec, even some early SR+.. I guess whatever is on the boat when it arrives. At the moment the only pattern I can see is they're doing cash buyers first. I've literally seen someone with the same spec car at the same location with a much higher invoice number get a delivery estimate before me.

That given, 3000 orders is a lot to be jumping ahead when there are only 1200 VINs so far and maybe 200 in the country. If the order date spreadsheet is representative then cash buyers are the majority (tesla buyers seem to be significantly more flush with cash than average, is all I can take from that).

Edit: Looking at the spreadsheet there's at least one person with HP picking up today, so not even the cash buyer theory works.. no idea then.

As will anyone that owns their current car and are choosing to sell private after getting a bad trade in offer. Lots of ways to get a lump of cash that don't involve the dealer, but they all look like cash at the time of purchase.

how you get the reg number so that insurance can be sorted?

Insurance should be happy to insure the VIN

I don't get the "I'm more entitled than the next person" and words like "inscrutable" and "madness"

Some people were
  • prompt in placing an order after 01-May
  • have not changed their order
  • have had no problem with finance
  • if they were one of the ones that got the "Can you take delivery" call they happened to be IN to take the call
  • had the good fortune to order a car/option combination that Tesla made-for-stock in the very first batch of RHD
  • and ... Tesla and have assigned a vehicle to that order ... Tesla have said they have prioritised reservation holders.
if not then yours will be coming soon.

Personally nothing would induce me to take one of the end of June cars. PDI will be rushed to get into end of Q2, and staff are going to be less clued up than a July delivery

No text but I just got a call from Linda in Maidenhead who ran through and confirmed my details. She confirmed that the next step would be to have a VIN allocated which might be July, August or even September. Once the VIN has been allocated then the final invoice with details of how to pay would be generated and the delivery centre would reach out to book in.

Lots of facebook'ers all saying they have a text along the lines of:-

Congratulations, you will be among the first to take delivery of Model 3 in the UK. Your delivery is scheduled for 20/6 16:00 in London, Heathrow. We will contact you shortly to confirm the final details. Please log in towww.tesla.com/teslaaccount to complete your delivery profile as soon as possible.

Can't help but notice that it's mainly those who ordered the Long Range AWD (the one that's no longer available) who don't seem to be seeing much movement on their orders... It could be that either it wasn't 'a popular enough' option or that its current lack of availability is pushing it down the priority list? It's odd, because a lot of people seemed narked when it was pulled.

It is killing me....

Supposedly 300 in this batch ... so "not much of the backlog"

Seems that people are getting Delivery Date literally a few days before .. and having to arrange money, insurance, and sell old car (if not trading in)

I am hopeful that this is just before "end of Q2 rush" and once the main flow of RHD m£s start the process will be a bit more mature.

But I can't imagine that, in that time, the Website / Back Office & COMMs will improve ...

I'm sure they will be reaching out to you soon!

Given that its killing him reaching out would be a lot more use than just calling him ...
