Plan at the Fremont delivery. 10:15
Got there at 8:45 (2 hour drive from Santa Rosa) doors open at 9. Potty stop and our guy was on tap at 9:10. Our car was ready so started demo was done on our car not the showroom car. Very very good demo/instruction and we were paperwork complete at a bit before 10.
All was perfect, no scratches or anything good alignment on all the body parts doors interior.

Pretty much the smoothest auto purchase I have ever had!!
Trade in: hand in the pink and registration and keys ------poof never saw our tried and trusted Vette again fairwell old friend (20 years good service)

This is the way to buy a car!

Not what you want to hear of course: Tons of hairline scratches, a paint chip, asymmetrically misaligned door/fender panels (bad enough for my 83-year-old father to have caught them and alerted them to me to give you a reference point, and he's not picky), and detaching weather stripping on the driver side rear door. I envy you perfects. I know I gravitate twowards OCD and perfectionism, but it's disheartening to be in the apparent minority.

Just give me a discount and I'll feel like less of a schmuck. Trying not to be too defeatist here, but I dread making the 2-hour trip to the service center, whenever that may be. And even when I do, I won't be able to drop it off for paint protection as originally planned because paint curing takes up to 2 weeks from what I understand. Setting up shop under a bridge for 2 weeks is out of the question, so just letting the elements have at it is looking to be my last resort, and I'm of half a mind to do that now since trying to enact control of things over which I have none is making me a mental wreck.

For those with no hairline scratches visible, what color did you order? Darker tones are horrid for revealing defects.

Not sure if you're really in the minority (though I hope you are). The poll isn't really very scientific. There certainly have been a lot of people with problems. Out of curiosity what was your VIN? Also, when & where did you take delivery?

I think this poll is a good idea but a lot more data is needed to know how widespread the problems really are. I wonder if it'd be worth adding to the spreadsheet. That would give us an idea as to whether it's getting better & if there's a problem with certain SC's, etc. Maybe it's too late since I kind of doubt a lot of people would go back & fill out the additional information if they took delivery a while ago.

Fremont on 4/19. Was 1hr late due to Bart issues. Got there at 1145. Got out at 1pm. Very busy. Car wasn't cleaned throughly. Looks like they rushed. Did not receive my toy model 3. They were scrambling looking for my car, but there 30 or so cars at the delivery stage. Minor issue is that there was a small scratch on back seat if you look for it and my phone staging dock rubber thing was beatup. Didn't notice the phone thing, but don't really care about both issues. So otherwise it was good.

Bird did poop on my windshowin when I was driving.

Yeah, I had basically 0 issues (VIN #130xx) on my pickup Thursday. I had a gigantic checklist put together from various other ones I'd seen on here and elsewhere, and it turns out it was obsessive overkill. Fit & finish looks great everywhere, nothing was out of place, everything's working great (knock on dash). Worst thing was a few super tiny radial scratches in the clearcoat from what looks like overenthusiastic buffing during the detail prep; they're gonna fix it Wednesday.

I went to the Triangle Tesla owners club meeting yesterday and someone who took delivery of his a month or two earlier was going over it with a fine-tooth comb picking out all the places his had problems that mine didn't.

It's been nothing but a blast, I could not be happier.

Picked up 129xx Saturday. My isuses:

1) Scratches on the center piano black console
2) Left Tail-Light misaligned
3) Paint swirls (Saw all over the hood in wide, circular arcs. Some were minor, no biggie. But every 12 inches was a more serious one. The glare just to the right and below the sun reflection is caused by this swirl/scratch)
4) Extremely fun to drive

Just to expand on my rather boring experience :).. I walked around the car about 3x when I was escorted into the delivery area. Body and paint was clean. There was some wax residue in the recesses of the parking sensors, but nothing I couldnt handle. The interior was spotless (dustless). My DS went over all the features, had me set up my profile, connect my phone, etc. We were going pretty quick because I'd let him introduce a feature and then just tell him "ok, got it" and we'd move on. The DS remarked that I was taking it all in rather quickly. I told him I think I had watched every Model 3 video on YouTube.. possibly twice or more, so I had a good idea what to expect but it was nice to see it in person.

Like a few others above, once I was with the car, I kind of just forgot everything I prepared for and was just in shock it was finally happening.. and I definitely prepared. My co-worker got his Model 3 about 3 weeks ago. I visited his car daily in the parking lot, walking around it to inspect it.. like a dry run, making note of things to check myself when my day came.

Over the weekend, I had my first chance to wash the car myself. I'm pretty particular when it comes to paint and finish so I was somewhat expecting to find some flaws. But I'm happy to report that I found no issues with the paint or fit and finish. The paint was remarkably smooth. So smooth that I thought maybe they clayed it during the pre-delivery detail, but more likely its just the paint is so fresh and new, that there wasnt much opportunity for contaminants to get stuck to the paint.

I still plan to clay it, but I expect it'll be really quick, maybe 15 minutes to go over the whole car. I still plan to do some mild paint correction myself (using a Harbor Freight DA polisher and Griot's Fast Correcting Cream) and follow that up with a coat or two of CQuartz myself.

To everyone waiting and stressing about their delivery inspection, I'd say dont get too hung up on what other people found. Focus more on what you would normally look for and focus on things you've seen that could be an issue that you'd be concerned about.

When I was looking to buy my first LCD TV about 10 years ago. I was on AVSforum.com. If you're not familiar with the site, its where audio and video geeks hang out and talk about things like color gamut, dynamic range, frequency response and headroom, etc.. stuff I normally dont care about. Anyhow, I had my eye on a Sharp TV. I had heard good things about Sharp TVs and my friends who had them liked them. That is, until I started reading AVSforum. There was a lot of talk about 'banding'. I'd go to Costco, BestBuy, where ever I could to see the TV to look for this 'banding' issue. Eventually someone told me if I put on a white screen and turned the contrast all the way up, I would be able to see the banding.. something I normally wouldnt do unless I was specifically looking for an issue. Needless to say, I stopped visiting AVSforum before an audio or video purchase and I've been perfectly happy with my last 2 TV purchases.

Anyhow, I'm not downplaying the issues that other people have found. I'm not giving Tesla a free pass on QC issues. All I'm saying is that for me, someone who is by far the most OCD person when it comes to paint, fit and finish compared to anyone I personally know, my car is perfect.

^I'm an AVS junkie! I would see my OLED's vertical banding near black with or without them.;)

My black center console is filled with scratches, too. It's a magnet for such, so I'm surprised if you can find one without. That's one my OCD is more easily permissive about. The paint chip and the surface scratches on the hood and the doors (along with a panel misalignment that my 83-year-old father was able to spot, even before I had the chance to check), not so much.

Yeah, well.. I did kind of leave some of those hairline scratches myself on that piano black center console.. but I wasnt too upset since I was going to wrap it.. but yeah, that center console is definitely a questionable design decision.. looks good when its clean and scratch free.. but otherwise, its a nightmare. I drove the car for 2 days before wrapping it and for 2 days, I had 2 microfiber towels covering the center console

Good post. Thanks!
