Anyone have this piece fall out?

I've seen this a few times before, on forums and on youtube. As far as I remember it has something to do with the charge port door responding to the charge cable? The youtouber daxm(?) did a series of videos on it. I think he glued it back on once, it fell off and then mobile service put it back on. Don't hold me to any of this though, I've only had my car a few days and my piece is still on (at least I think … maybe I should go out and check

Yup pretty common I'm told. Tech that 'installed' the rear badge on my car said Tesla replaces the whole thing but when he has the chance he just uses an adhesive

If the door still closes ok, probably - the symptom was not closing or opening correctly then they discover the bit is gone..
Maybe try a small bit of this, more flexible in different (cold) weather.. I've used it to re-secure trim bits and stuff on cars.. works pretty good

Without that part in place, you are unable to press on the charging door to get it to open. You either need to press the button on the Tesla charging handle or use the main touchscreen if you’re using a traditional J1772 station. You might also get an error on the dash about charging issues. I did after about 2 months, but they all went away after the next powerdown.
Glue it back in place yourself or wait for a couple other things and either take it in for service or have a mobile tech come out to glue it for you. The Tesla tech used Superglue on mine, but many adhesives will work just fine.

Did they replace just the door or the entire charging port? It’s a shame they don’t have a stock of these diamond shaped pieces to just re glue rather than replace parts.

it's there so you can open the charge door by pressing on it. without it, that feature will fail, but the door will still open from UMC button press or from the car's center screen.
Mine fell out and I used some double-sided tape (normal arts/crafts grade) to put it back. it hasn't fallen out again (for 9 months now).

Ahh, that explains why I have never been able to open the door by pressing it. Must have fallen off before I received the car. Gotten used to not needing it.

Can't tell what that piece is from the picture. Can someone take a better picture so I can check if I have it?
If you open your charge port door, it's on the door part itself. Here's an image from online I found, you can see the spot where the magnet has fallen out of at the top right of the charge port door.
I think the better question is if anyone hasn't had that piece fall out
Wow, thanks. I never would have figured out where that came from. I’ll check mine and if it’s loose it’s Superglue time.
I found that piece way early in ownership in my garage. I put it in a pill vial.
Did not know what it was for until I found the TMC forums couple months ago... Glad I kept it all that time!
