Welcome to the forums, wlwtm
A good sign they are hiring so many, it must mean business is about to explode and they are serious about it!
I have met Tesla employees in Hong Kong and USA. They have all held a very intense motivation and enthusiasm for Tesla Motors and the model S, and I have on more than one occasion spent more than an hour in a Tesla store, browsing every detail, asking questions and even ... talked to other (potential) customers about the greatness of the car, the company and EVs in general. I have held back and made sure not to take the time away from the sales people when I can see there is someone else who wants to ask something, stepping to the back and let them do their thing, but I have also seconded a conversation by saying I live in Hong Kong and waiting for delivery of my model S (like "here is a real life dedicated customer). I even asked the sales people if they found it inappropriate, but they said they thought it was nice input and didn't mind.
A Tesla employee in Florida told me they hire both full time and part time. He is a student, just about to finish his university degree, while working part time at Tesla Motors at the same time. He said over time, part time employees are offered full time, and full time are promoted to higher positions, as needed - like when a new store opens, they take the more experienced employees and move them, while hiring new people at existing places. He couldn't afford a Tesla model S as it was, but since many years he had been driving a hybrid car already (dedicated to the cause), and I'm sure he would get one when he could.
I also asked about how many are leaving, and he said there's hardly anyone leaving, mainly moving locations and job descriptions. I don't know what they call it, but there are floor people in the shop (mainly free lancers I think) who don't do test drives, then probably a full timer who hold a higher position, store manager style, while also doing test drives.
Now you mention
female technician, I don't recall seeing many female sales people. I am sure it's not policy, but more likely that boyz tend to be more gadget freaks. I actually think they would consider it good for the image if there are more girls employed, like when you walk into an apple store. In fact, the whole concept and spirit, the sense of team feeling and motivation, reminds me a lot of when going into an Apple store. You feel very welcome, and it's a pleasant experience whether you buy something or not. When thinking of an Apple store, I feel there is a pretty good 50/50 mix of sales people.
Having said that, I have not yet had any face experience with management or technicians, only shop floor people. You are probably thinking of a more technical position.
If your skill, dedication and mindset is there, I am sure you will make a great Tesla employee. Knowing as much as possible about the car(s) and the company, will be a great help for sure in your chances, and these forums, as well as internet search engines, will get you quite far.
Good luck!
