Anyone looking to sell a roadster right now?

I keep an eye on the listings on Gruber’s site, and of course eBay, Autotrader, etc. I have also chatted with Carl Medlock (what a wealth of info!) and I’m very strongly considering one of the roadsters he has stashed away but thought I should see if anyone else is looking to sell theirs right now too. I started looking about 2 years ago and I’m kicking myself for waiting obviously. Looking to make a purchase within the next month finally. Please PM me if you have one to sell. I’m planning to keep it for a long long time so i want to explore all my options (even explored importing EU spec - which turned out to be impossible). My budget started out around $110k and there are a few good options for sale in that range, but I’m willing to go a bit higher for the right specs. I'd prefer to find something that’s not red or black since I’ve already had a red S and black X.

I know the rarest of the rare will be well out of my price range certainly. Thanks all, and I’m looking forward to finally joining the roadster community. Located in Phoenix, AZ.

This just went live, I got the email at 12:02pm est, so 45min ago.

R80 typically gets the full 30k premium on top of price, the cost for Tesla to do it. It does not detriment value or originality as the battery is a consumable on the tesla. It’s essentially the original tank of gas in the vehicle, once gone, new gas goes in. All ess’ will be replaced in time. I believe the sheets are replaced, the casing stays when they do the upgrade, and the old sheets are kept by tesla.

I’m west coast so i got the BaT alert a little bit after my post, going to have to watch that auction closely. Just thought I would post here in case any members considering selling theirs might want to avoid the hassle of the auctions, etc.

Good point on the battery pack. Guess it’s not any different than the newer teslas in that regard, but as you mentioned they do carry a premium for having it already done. I hope Tesla will continue to support the roadsters as they need replacement batteries.

Another Tesla sale site is Only Used Tesla. They don't have any Roadsters listed, however. You may want to reach out to the creator of the site, Adam
Qureshi and ask him to keep you in mind if anyone reaches out about their Roadster. I've listed Teslas with him before.
Thanks that’s a site I was not aware of, I’ll reach out.

I have also kept an eye on findmyelectric.com, but it doesn’t seem as up to date.

I have been considering selling mine, #451 due to having another lower millage one in the garage that I will drive on the rare occasion I even take one out. Carl looked over it a couple of times with the previous owner and even repainted the front bumper, touched up the paint and it hasn't been driven much since. I also put a full-body stealth ppf on it since after doing some more paint correction and pealing off the old ppf. Dm me and we can talk more if you're interested

If i were you, i would bid on the on BaT. Mileage is only 32k and 2010 is a good year. I don’t see the value will drop. as tesla gets bigger, original roadster demand will get higher. I wouldnt buy it to make money but I dont see you will lose much at least.

Thanks everybody for the advice, I did talk to Carl a few times and he was extremely helpful but the cars he has are a bit out of my budget. Truth be told even my current budget is a bit of a stretch for me but I believe strongly that it's a good (and fun!) investment. I said I didn't want a red or black car but I found a local 2010 Roadster in Fusion Red that I couldn't pass up after test driving. I figured I can always put a wrap on it, but my son (4 years old) thinks it looks like Lightning MacQueen from the Cars movies, so that may break his heart and I may just have to stick with the red. At any rate I am really excited to join this community and look forward to being active on the forum! I've spent a LOT of time pouring through threads this past week. First item on my list is to get a Visium top to use when I need AC in the summer here in Phoenix. Any other recommendations from fellow owners for any aftermarket items that make owning/driving easier? I do think I need some kind of aftermarket HUD or something for the speedometer, I'm 6'1" so its a bit hard to see when driving.

Any other roadster owners in phoenix, are there any regular meet-ups or anything?

Congrats on the new toy!

The Visium top is great, but NOT in the summer! You will need far more A/C with the Visium on in the sun than leaving the top off and just driving. I use mine in the winter only. Come late spring, the cloth top goes on. Note also that the Visium is not something one can (or should) take on and off at a whim.

I'd also recommend getting an OVMS v3 module so you can monitor and control the car charging remotely, get notification of events, and other stuff. The OVMS v3 also has a utility for driving the common HUDs, but be sure to get the right interface cable (which may need modding). A regular HUD by itself will get nothing from the car's OBDII port.

We actually had to clear up with Gruber which Roadsters were still for sale, and which had perished in the fire, sadly. But that's all sorted out and up to date now!

If anyone is looking for a Roadster, Gruber's for sale page is quite good as they are the Roadster specialists (and we also list much of their inventory). We have a couple Roadsters that were just listed from Charged Automotive as well.

Classic Roadsters aren't nearly as common as other cars, but they're out there!

And congrats @ndubes on your Roadster purchase!

Thank you! Good to know on the visium. I will probably still get it but maybe won’t use iT in the summer as much as I thought. It hits 120 in phoenix, so convertibles here usually get driven top-off the 8 NON-summer months of the year.

Is the OVMS a DIY install or something I have to take to someone to get done?

OVMS v3 is definitely easy to install yourself. Best bet is to contact Carl (Shop - Medlock & Sons) and buy it through them. I believe they have some in stock, and can help with the install.

The only caution is that the latest cable that connects the module to the car includes all 3 of the CAN busses, one of which is also used by the OVMS to talk to the HUD out the other side. That will confuse the car if the two remain connected, as it will start seeing HUD traffic on a CAN bus that's not used for that purpose inside the car. Either find the older cable with only the first CAN bus, or remove the pins for CAN 3 if it's there. I think (hope) the mod is documented in the installation instructions. There's also a thread on it somewhere here on the TMC forum.

Looking at Carl's site I am reminded of another upgrade that I did, that of upgrading the brake rotors. The stock ones will form a coating of rust if even a cloud passes within 50 miles of the car, which results in a few heartbeats of weak braking the first time they're used. After the rust is scraped off (and if your heart is still beating), they work fine. The upgraded rotors are much better in this regard, especially that they don't rust so easily. Not cheap, but I felt they were worth it, if nothing for else than the peace of mind.

You might also check to see if your wheels still have the locking lug bolts. The pot metal the key is made of tends to shatter with the air guns used by tire shops (even if you explicitly tell them not to use them), and like most repair parts, replacements are impossible to find. After going through this a few years ago, I replaced all the keyed bolts with non-keyed regular ones.

Last thought is to get into the habit of downloading your car's logs periodically (I do it monthly), to check for anything odd the car may have noticed but not reported. The infamous 1144 / 1146 errors can leave you stranded if not addressed.

Thanks for all the advice!

I think I"ll place the order for the OVMS this weekend that sounds invaluable to have and not very spendy - I see there's a v3 and v4, I assume I want v4?

I was going to probably drive this thing (fairly sparingly) for a few months before deciding what to do on brakes & suspension but it does sound like those are worthwhile upgrades. Appears I do have the locking lug bolts though, where can I find the replacements?

Is there a good link for how to download the logs? Car only has 9500 miles so I'm not sure if this has been looked at before but would like to get myself educated on how best to care for the car.

By the way what is a typical good/bad ideal range at a full charge?

I have a Visium Top, in pretty much brand new condition, that I have decided to sell. I am moving and I'd prefer not to drag it across the country with me since I have an OEM hardtop on my Roadster. Feel free to DM me if you're interested :)
