He got 2 of 3. The 3rd one had signs of being repaired.

Both are Twilight Blue 2.0 sports. I know the VINs.

Yes, you will still want "The CAN".

Tesla got rid of nearly all charging stations with native Roadster plug ends and put in the newer Model S type instead. So having some kind of adapter will come in handy repeatedly.
Having both types of CANs (For Tesla Model S/X/3 plug, and J1772 plug) will let you charge most places that matter.
The CAN - Roadster to J1772 or Model S/X connector

You may want to find the 120V trickle charge cables as well in case you are only able to find a typical outlet, although charging that way is very slow.
Tesla — Spare Connector - Available in North America Only

Also, instead of the J1772 version of the CAN, Tesla made a cable (although less elegant than the CAN-Jr):
Tesla — Roadster J1772 Mobile Connector

There are also Roadster UMCs with various adapter cables for 240V charging (NEMA14-50 at campgrounds), dryer outlets, etc.

stupid question but if you used the CAN on a model s supercharger would it work?

If you do a quick search, the simple answer is NO.

Roadster is NOT supercharger capable at this time. Do a search for JdeMo to get a third party CHAdeMO DCFC for Roadster look for @TonyWilliams

Like others said - no... It would "fit", but the Supercharger wouldn't recognize the vehicle, and so charging would not start.
The Roadster is not set up to take high current DC through that port, so it isn't ready to work either.
That charge port is for ~120-240V AC only up to about 80amps max.

I will have to give it a try! so 2 of them are 70 amps and 2 are 40amps....
Correct. Well, the two higher powered ones are actually capable of 80 amps, but the Roadster can only take 70, so that's what you will get... All four are the same model (capable of 80), but the two over by Service appear to be on lower powered circuits for some reason.

Again, the Service Center folks have priority on these - we're guests. Usually you will find they're plugged into a car, but not actually charging (i.e. charging has completed), so you'll have to go inside and ask to use them. But if they are actively using them, don't whine.

I just want to chime in with the useless comment that I grew up in Hayward, and am and pleased to see a couple of Roadsters will be at least passing through there.

That is all.
