I was just speaking with a Tesla SA who was mentioning the problems they are currently having with a new rule that was initiated, and effective immediately that if you are
Not from CA- Out of State and
Buying a used Tesla in CA
Taking delivery in CA
The CA DMV will only issue a 72 hour movement permit/temp tag.
Tesla is having issues since most DMV paperwork can take 3-5 weeks. You can see the dilemma this puts you in. In WA you can buy temporary tags. WA DMV Temp Tags. You can buy for $30 - a 3 day temporary permit. So if you were to buy from CA, and drive back. You get a 3 day moving permit from CA DMV. Then once it is in Washington, you are paying $30 for every 3 day with a max of 3 permits per 30 day period. If the DMV and Tesla takes 3-4 weeks, you are stuck with a car, that has no tags and isnt driveable "by law" on the roads.
The SA mentioned it has caused issues as many customers are upset. Some have found "other avenues" to drive the car, while SA are pushing the transport method. Curious what everyones thoughts were, since I have found the CA used Teslas to have best pricing.
Curiuos if any recent owners have run into this issue?
