Anyone replace an SUV with a Model S?

Have an X5 M50 which I am thinking of replacing with a Model S. TBH, some luggage occasionally and golf clubs are all that I use the back storage for.

Curious to hear from those who made the
switch - likes, dislikes, overall take. Thanks!

P.S. Had an order for a ‘24 MSP that I backed out of to get a new 911. No regrets on that side of things, just wondering if I should’ve gotten the MS, too.

Have you ruled out other Tesla models?

There are tons of threads here about the Model S. I don’t think the fact that you’re replacing an SUV is important, since you’ll have plenty of room. Specific questions would give you better answers. You probably already drove an S since you ordered one.

Started with an S in 2016; added a 2021 Y. They both essentially hold the same amount of cargo. Since the S was first it will probably always be a favorite. We are not ride-o-philes; neither one has air suspension and we are happy with the ride of both. I believe there are many who don't care for Tesla ride quality, period. While the S is not that difficult for a person of a certain age to enter/exit, the Y is a bit easier but then you're not going for a Y. I can't imagine anyone not liking the S after an SUV except for ride height and visibility.

Replaced a Cayenne GTS (actually kept it but not my daily any more) with a Model S Plaid - couldn’t be happier. I also have a 911 Turbo, which I thought was extraordinarily fast, until I got the Plaid. I find there is plenty of storage in the S, and the parcel shelf is handy to hide things in the rear boot. Seeing the other cars you are enjoying - I’d recommend going Plaid.

I sold my Q5 and got a Plaid. I’ve had a few other Model S cars in the past. There is a good amount of space in it, but you can’t hide how much shorter it is. This is evident when trying to put taller items in the trunk- example we did a trip to the beach and loaded the Tesla up but it couldn’t fit my 4 yr old’s bikes because of how short the hatch is. Something that would have fit in the Q5.

I love the S but with younger kids I wonder if the X would have been a better choice. If it was my only car I would have traded for an X based on the need. But we also have a GLS that we take instead for those occasions. I will say for 80% of everything I need, it works great!

Replaced an Acura RDX with a Model SLR. Actually feels like more space for groceries, etc. For summer situations really like the remote climate control so you can cool down the car a few minutes before you return. Everything seems better.

PSA: You also have the option of "keeping" the A/C on during shopping stops, etc. My daughter and her fiance were unaware of this feature in their MY/M3 (respectively). You'll find dog mode on the same screen. My wife and I use it daily in Florida to keep cabin temperature comfortable while having lunch or shopping. Of course, you can also just precool, as you seem to do. With the "keep" mode I never forget.😊

Went from an RX 450h to an S. IIRC, by the numbers there's less cargo space but it has plenty for our needs. We've done several hauls with lots of plants form the nursery while doing landscaping at our new home. Seating probably isn't as high as it was in the RX but that hasn't bothered us.

I also replaced a Toyota 4Runner with a Model S - more than meets all my needs plus no gas expense

Thanks for the comments, all! I did end up getting the Model S. Been a couple of times transporting larger/tall items I wish I still had my SUV, but 90% of time no issue as the Model S cargo area is pretty massive for most things like luggage.

As for seat / ride height, compared to the 911 this is like getting into the most comfortable car ever. 911 is so low I have to plant my palm/wrist on the door sill to pivot out of it every time. lol. Overall, very happy with the Model S build quality and it's truly a wonderful cruiser.
