I ordered my car back in August for December delivery. My car was pushed a few weeks and now says "Late December/Early January." I placed an order for a car with AP. Will the feature be enabled at my buy price of $2500 or are they going to try to upsell me now?

My thinking is they will honor the enhanced autopilot for your old price but to get the fully-autonomous part you will need to pay for that. Question best for your sales contact.

my guess is up-sell you or allow you to cancel AP if you don't want to fork over the additional $'s. i can't remember the full sequence of events, but I think they did this when they removed s70 from the lineup. they allowed you to upgrade but they didn't just throw stuff in at the old price.

I suspect that they will honor the price at time of order.

I ordered my MS in March 2016 just prior to the facelift and the price hike for a December 2016 delivery and got the upgrades between then and now for "free" (late 2015 pricing). The catch would be, as it was in my case, that if you change anything to your order prior to it going into production, you will have to pay the $500 change fee which would make you subject to all current pricing.

So, I'm guessing you will get the enhanced AP with a January delivery date, but if you want to add the self-driving capability (total of 8 operational cameras) that would bump up your final pricing. The additional self-driving option is available after purchase for $4000, so it might be best to take delivery and add that later (assuming you get the AP 2.0 hardware).

Either way, you're getting an awesome car and you're going to love it! ;)

    Good luck!

Has anyone heard what Tesla is doing for orders already placed and set for delivery scheduled for Nov/Dec 2016? It's clear that the cars will come with the new AP sensors. But will the performance of AP be degraded via software limitation? Or will new orders be grandfathered in to the Enhanced AP capabilities? My local DS gave some confusing guidance on this.

I would love to hear something definitive from Tesla. My DS insinuated that the new AP features will be software limited for current orders that only paid for the AP 1.0. I was given the option to pay $2k to upgrade to the enhanced autopilot. I declined in hopes that there will be some sort of grandfather clause for new orders prior to the announcement.

I've also been told that I need to pay £2k to upgrade to enhanced autopilot (paid £2600, UK price now is £4600), but no mention of having to pay the £500 change fee. Still waiting to find out about full self-driving, I assume the £2800 on the configurator.

    From my DS:

    Hi Andy,

Yes exciting news we have announced our next generation Autopilot hardware and this will be installed to your car when it is built. Currently your car is in our production que as stated on our MyTesla account and we will update you when in enters production this is planned to happen next week so you will see this status change before the end of the month. Your car will come enabled with all the features of our original Autopilot convenience features and allow you the option to upgrade to Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving Capability at any time. The features described in these new updates will be enabled over time as we test and validate.

You can read about all the new features this will allow us to enable over time at the links below

    https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/blog/all-tesla-cars-being-produced-now-have-full-self-driving-hardware
    https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/autopilot

If you are interested in enabling the Enhanced Autopilot features you have the option to upgrade to Enhanced Autopilot at any time before or after delivery the cost difference is between Autopilot and Enhanced autopilot for your is £2,000 or £3,100 before or after delivery. You can read further about the enabling Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving Capabilities on our design studio below.

    https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/modelx/design

Some of the features will not initially be available when you collect the car however though software updates we will enable more and more features as they are tested and Validated, timing of which can also depend on Regulatory approval.

    Regards

Same here, given the option to upgrade for $2k more. According to my Delivery Specialist I will get the updated hardware with a software limitation of gen 1 autopilot. I really don't see much of a difference in terms of functionality of enhanced autopilot and 1st gen autopilot. I also don't see how it's possible or even worth developing saftware that would mimic 1st gen hardware and fragment their platform even more. We will see how this plays out...........

Maybe not today (or December 2016) but I assume there will be over the course of next year and further. I've agreed to buy it now for £2k rather than the £3.1k later, and Tesla's pricing never goes down (although more recently that's our own fault over in the UK!)

I am not convinced that this is really happening. It seems like they would have to go through coding, alpha, beta testing, and shadow validation for a 1-cam or software-limited version of AP running on the new hardware, when it would only apply to this specific, fairly small set of vehicles. They might net a few million $ extra profit, and a lot of headache.

My sales person is apparently out of town until Monday. I'm glad we are getting some clarification.

Maybe they'll just ignore the output of the all but the single main front-facing camera? Seems like a support nightmare.

In all likelihood they're just hoping to scrounge up a few more dollars. Plus if you want the fully self-driving option later they can say, "Well, you need to also pay the Enhanced Autopilot post-delivery upgrade fee as well!"

Easy you limit it to using one camera just like the web page says. So you don't get:
    • 1 camera instead of 4
    • Autosteer+
    • Automatic matching of speed to traffic conditions
    • Automatic lane changing without driver input
    • Smart Summon
    • transition from one freeway to another
    • exit the freeway when your destination is near (AP1 with 8.1 might do this or most of it.)
    • self-park when near a parking spot
unless you upgrade to Enhanced Autopilot.

Even on the ordering page they make it look like you could still order Autopilot instead of Enhanced Autopilot. As it says "Enhanced Autopilot adds new capabilities to the Tesla Autopilot driving experience. The enhancements include going from one to four cameras for greater accuracy, redundancy, and to see fast-approaching vehicles in adjacent lanes."

So maybe if enough people don't pay for the Enhanced version they will offer the basic version so people can dip their toes in at a lower cost point. (And upgrade over time.)

Disabling cameras is more of a hardware limiting function. They will still have to write all new code to work with new hardware. Some of the functionality listed is already available in AP1.

No, none of the items I listed are available in AP1. (At least from what Tesla says.)

I also have an order placed (confirmed 6 days ago). I emailed my DS to find out what the process is for updating to Enhanced AP and autonomous driving. He confirmed that I have to pay the price difference to upgrade to the new features as noted above. Seems like that is pretty consistently the answer people are getting.
