will it require a new model X or will there be a reasonable path to upgrade current model X to AP2.0?

I think that Tesla might devise a path similar to that taken by Comma.ai - to design upgrade package for current fleet.
But might require to petition Tesla for such an upgrade package

Elon already stated on the conference call that there will be no upgrade path.

That path will be beset on all sides by the inabilities of current tech and the tyranny of swift innovation.

Can you please post the link for the conference call and/or a replay link. For some reason I was not able to find the announcement, only Elon's blog post at teslamotors.com.

Take a look here. You can also look at this tweet: "Should mention that retrofitting to full self-driving hardware is very difficult. Cost delta is more than buying a new car. Wish it weren't."

Unfortunately, that link was just click-bait scam. Did anyone actually "watch" this event live-streamed?

I listened to the Q&A. Musk clearly said no upgrade for current cars. "It would be like a spinal cord transplant" in his words.

Ok, I've uncovered that this announcement was a invite-only, call-in conference call (no video). Sounds like it will be difficult to find a recording.

    --update--
I found a pretty good review of the conference call here:

I don't know why you say that I downloaded the recording of the call from that link. (Unless it has been taken down now like the YouTube version of it was that was originally up.)

another reason why you lease a Tesla... but anyways.. i bet perfection of autonomous and regulatory is still few years away..

The problem is not Tesla cannot do 99% of the scenario, it is the fact that the last 1% takes 99% of the time. i won't worry too much about it.

also won't be surprise if Level 5 is ready, the steering wheel will be gone too.. so there are plenty more updates coming.

I think some of the ones delivered already but we're just built have it
