In addition to the quote Tam provided there is this one: "Tesla informed me that it'll take 3-5 weeks for them to analyze the autopilot data and get back to me. Meanwhile, I'll need to get my car fixed with my own insurance. "

Making it seem like he asked Tesla to cover the cost and they will let him know in 3-5 weeks if they will or not.

You are implying that

1) he expects Tesla to pay

or

2) he asked Tesla to pay.

He neither did 1 or 2.

He does not expect nor did he assume that Tesla will pay and he never asked Tesla to pay.

But Tesla does open the way that Tesla would pay if it's Autopilot's fault.

That's the expectation coming from Tesla while the driver specifically said that he does not assume nor expect Tesla will pay.
