Are the Tesla sales people allowed to just completely lie to you?

How about selling you a car with package upgrades that are currently non-functional features? Saying the delivery fee is non-refundable so they can arrange logistics of your order by then delivering a vehicle missing some features? Misleading sales tactics with non-disclosure of differences between test driven cars and purchased cars?

…presumably these aren’t acceptable business practices to most.

My bad. I thought the conversation topic was about whether sales advisors were able to lie to you (answer is “yes” and “they are clueless about discounts and motivated to sell as any other dealership”).

In all fairness, then perhaps just the last example would be to the topic at hand. I can edit my post to keep it simpler to avoid confusing people.
