Ha. AAA asked, twice now getting inspection there, what size engine did it have. Then was surprised it didn't need emission testing. :eek:

Oh, and with less than 100 and now less than 7000 miles, they can be persuaded to not jack it up on a lift. Point out how much they'll be on the hook for if they puncture the battery. Made wooden lifting block and brought hockey picks for nothing.
 
its a hassle. i believe its been proven that it does not reduce collisions. vehicle condition is the cause of like 1% of wrecks...

there is a nissan or volvo dealer across the street from tesla at devon. they are familiar with teslas. figured id just go there.
 
If any of you PA people are in Central PA or will be coming by one of the superchargers (Harrisburg, Carlisle) and would be interested in showing off your Model 3 can you DM a longtime lurker/first time poster?

Every day that goes by I am struggling more and more with the 3 vs S internal debate. Seeing a 3 in person should help. I don't have time to get to DC or NYC to see one in the stores any time soon. I still have a few months as a pre-reveal, online, non-owner reservation so I am hoping I can catch one coming through town between now and then.

Yes, I get that. For what I am looking for, I believe the 3 meets my needs/wants better. This is purely based on photos, specs and info posted on the internet though. I will need to physically confirm that before ordering. I have driven the S - I am just hoping I will not be disappointed in the 3 after all this time and end up getting an S anyway. Silver lining - payment will drop as I continue to save while waiting in line.

After seeing both, there is no way the S is worth the price difference. If I was new to Tesla, I'd be looking for a AWD3, no question.

That is the conclusion I keep coming to, only without the opportunity to have seen both. You make an interesting point about the AWD. Might as well just wait a couple more months and get what I really (think I) want. I'm not sure why, but for some reason I trust your judgement, but not sure I have that much willpower. I appreciate the input though.
 
Insurance on a 3 is cheaper too...
I really think the 2018 Model 3 is a better car than my 13 S. It's fit/finish/inside is just more car. More cubbies, more storage, the windows are more solid. the door handles don't needlessly flop around and break.

If you knew nothing of tesla, and told someone the S was $30k more, they'd look at you funny. Especially since the screen on the 3 is WAY faster and smoother than the one in the S that was sitting right next to it.

Until the S gets a redesign, I just don't see it in the same light as I did in 2016. Me? I'm waiting for the pickup. I'm still a truck guy...

Sabr is pretty spot on here, but also the comparison is less stark on a newer S vs the current 3. He's still spot on when talking about the screen though. Most advanced car in the world, and it feels like you're using an original ipad as the screen (in the S). Once they update that, add some more storage and the coat hangers, well then we're talking.

As of now, the 3 is a better car, IF you don't need the size/storage/comfort of the S.

I had the exact opposite reaction. After learning more about the 3, and even seeing one in person in my chosen color, I had a laundry list of things I didn't like about the 3, so I bought the S. To each his own.

OP, I hope you get to see the 3 and can then purchase whichever works better for you.

I received my M3 from the Devon delivery center on Tuesday, a photo of my car is my avatar. Great experience working with Jaala and Heather. For a three year owner/driver of a MS 70D, it only took about an hour, but I am sure for a new Tesla driver it might take twice as long and might also require an accompanied "test" drive of the delivered vehicle before leaving the center.

I will be posting a detailed review/impressions note in a new thread in the next week or so, but my first impression is that I'm blown away. After a few days of driving I can honestly say that I would prefer the M3 over the MS if the price were equal. This is a game changing car.

nice. I remember Jaala from when I used to go to Devon.

She was our delivery specialist for our S and was great. On delivery day she basically went over the delivery shtick with my wife while I was walking around the car drooling and looking for non-existent panel gaps, because I was so obsessed there wasn't likely anything new she'd end up telling me.

In fact, I had to go look if there were pictures... there she is showing my wife the magic.

Haha, glad you got to gawk...I was out of town for a week so I had to let it sit until this week when I picked it up. If you are in the Malvern area next week I'll take you for a spin.

That's great that you're looking to be involved the the city's formation of its' new EV policy.

I was going to PM you but then thought my questions would be helpful to anyone. As a newbie with regard to EVs I think the most confusing aspect of all this is charging a vehicle and all the different standards and private charging networks. While I have read many different articles tbh i still find it all very confusing. For instance I just realized Tesla vehicles cannot charge at Chademo chargers? Is that correct? Is there a EV Charging for Dummys - type article either on this forum or else where?

My second question to you pertains to what should a Tesla vehicle owner that lives in Center City/South Philly area without a garage do about charging his Tesla car? I have signed up to the various apps that locate charging stations and I know many in our area are within paid parking lots (The closest to me would be the parking garage of the Acme Supermarket on South St.) Can I use the chargers at Ikea? Does that make any sense? It's all a bit confusing!

A Tesla can charge with ChaDeMo but you need to buy an adapter. The others around are usually J1772, which the Model 3 will come with an adapter for. You'd need quite a few hours at that rate but no reason you could not plan to use the one at Acme or IKEA. You'd just have to plan around it, as you'd likely have to be there for many hours, depending on how often you charge. My advice would be to get a charger installed at work or somewhere you already go for hours. Tesla just introduced a work place destination charging program that may help. I personally (with one other) convinced a restaurant near my in-laws' to become a destination charging location so that there would be a way to charge near their house. It's doable but not nearly as convenient to have an EV that you can't either charge at work or home. But once there is a Philly super charger location, this will go away as you could go there for an hour or less, once or twice a week. (And pay fair rates to boot!)

Does anyone know, is Tesla, "allowed" to sell in PA? Back in 2015, I took delivery out of state.

At delivery, in Devon, will they take care of all the PennDot stuff?

Yes, I took delivery 2/12 of my Model 3 at Devon, and 12/4/14 of our Model S in Devon.

Re: Inspections, yes it's a huge pain in the butt. A fellow new Model 3 owner took hers to get inspected right away whereas my little bro who works at a place that does inspections told me I could not until I got my registration. Once I did I took it to him.

I configured 2 weeks ago and if I get it before Easter, I will be taking it to Harrisburg. If I get it before then we can meet up. It’s a long shot but I am hoping for a production burst coming from Fremont soon!!!

Thanks for the info. My husband and I have decided to install a Tesla charger in front of our row house without the guarantee of an available parking spot. The good thing is our immediate neighbor to the right has a garage and driveway so in a pinch if we need a quick charge up and the space isn't available we can TEMPORARILY park in front of his driveway and charge up a bit while sitting in the car (hopefully PPA will be cooperative) . We already have an appointment with an electrician to come spec out the job. Coincidentally we were planning to replace all of our sidewalks this spring so we will work this into our spring home improvement work! I also just found out that my parents will generously contribute money towards our new car, so that will go towards the charging station! My dad was contemplating on getting a MX but looks like he will settle on the new Lexus sedan. Damm, it would have been perfect to charge up at their house when I go visit them! Luckily there's a Tesla Service Center right by their house on Long Island.
