I didn't know they were in the mirrors until I saw it in this thread and I've done my share of reading threads around here for the last year or so. It's definitely not common knowledge. Even to owners who read this forum.

Having said that, I don't think most car thieves would risk driving around in a stolen car with broken off side mirrors. That's just asking to be pulled over.

When supercharging, the car must "handshake" with Tesla. If the car were reported stolen, ..... charging deeeenied!!! Kinda stops the thieves in their tracks!
