New disinformation piece out by "Charley Grant" at the always-dishonest Wall Street Journal, basically using bogus misreadings of the accounting (the usual ones) and trying to claim that Tesla should issue stock. Yeah, Wall Street crooks would like that, which is why it's not happening.

I'd like to run an experiment but want to hear what people think first...

I'm very tempted to start a new thread here titled "Another Tesla Fire!" and put the above link in it. I want to see whether the bots pick it up and/or the lame media.

Edit: note that the above link is to a BMW fire.

During market hours or out of hours?

bad idea, how about linking to "spontaneous BMW fires" since i seem to recall that is a true story
how about "elephants stampeding for the exits, closing their short positions, 1.4 million in a few days, leaving smaller shorts holding a bag of $10 billion of IOU's"

60 Minutes interview sort of felt short and pointless.

And then you see they had all this other footage that was more interesting.

Should have been a longer story.

Switching from gas to electric deserves more time to show the public what is going on... which is pretty amazing.

I was disgusted as I watched the 60 minutes show. It's as if she was blatantly trying to make Elon look bad. After watching that, I can't trust any official mainstream news outlet anymore and it sickens me. Trump is right with FAKE NEWS!

As much as I hate Trump the scamster, he is right about Fake news. Almost all media outlets exaggerate, lie and go for sensationalism. MSM is just as trashy as Trump.

Except when you check the facts it's usually right about him.

Not really. Media are same, they are just lucky Trump is actually conman, so they can *sugar* on him and it will have some relationship to reality.

Basically, truth in media is accidental.

I completely disregard the 60 minutes show since the controversial Audi 5000 Intended Unintended Acceleration Debacle

The Wall Street Journal: Manufacturing the Audi Scare
The Truth About Cars: In Defense of: The Audi 5000
60 Minutes Wasn’t Above Taking Audi’s Money Before Destroying Them

    You mean lying like this:

And NBC said, "Our new policy is not to lie".

Trump is not only a con man and a liar, he spouts off *constantly*, contradicts himself all the time, and makes really REALLY obvious lies. So the media doesn't have to do much of any work at all to notice and report on Trump being a crook and a liar! He makes it easy! (This is probably a side effect of Trump's Narcississtic Personality Disorder, which causes Trump to be unable to appreciate the long-term consequences of his actions. Normal liars don't contradict themselves that much.)

The media would have to pay substantially more attention than that to be right about Tesla.

For what it's worth, the fake news problem started a long time back. Fox News got the nickname "Faux News" over a decade ago because of their history of producing fake news. Sites like Media Matters were established specifically to fight against fake news. (In that case, it was established by a former fake news purveyor who felt guilty -- David Brock.)

Trump is just shouting an old leftie phrase; those of us on the left have been fighting fake news for decades, and we know Trump spreads fake news.

Actually, I've noticed this -- practically every time a Republican politician accuses the opposition of something? It's because that Republican is doing that thing. The Republicans who complain about gay people are having gay sex, the Republicans who complain about abortion and infidelity are forcing their mistresses to have abortions, the Republicans who complain about stolen elections are *stealing elections*, the Republicans who complain about budget deficits are creating huge budget deficits, the Republicans who complain about high taxes are raising taxes on most people, the Republicans who complain about fraud and waste are embezzling from the government, and of course the ones who complain about "fake news" are spreading fake news. It's the Republicans who complain about "fascism" who really worry me.

Repost from the Market Action thread:

I don't think I've ever read such a disingenuous long article about Tesla than this Wired hit piece.

    This part, as an example:
Guess who this "former employee" is?
Let's Google this phrase: "You’re a horrible human being"

All results point to a certain Martin Tripp. You know, this Martin Tripp.

How can Wired not mention the legal battle between the "former employee" and Tesla? The "former employee" is publicly accused of sabotaging the company but he's presented by Wired as just an employee who spoke out about the company.

Will journalists speak out about how Wired is sabotaging the integrity of the media, or what?

The Wired article is actually very solid, despite not pointing out that Tripp's been accused of sabotage (and is probably guilty). It's mostly about Musk's managment *style*, and it seems accurate on that count (for better or worse). Though sleep deprivation probably accounts for a lot of the worse.

    Nonsense.

For every comment or action or reaction or behavior there is a context.

It is the reporter who tells the story that has the absolute responsibility to provide that context. When I read that part of the story I had absolutely no idea that the engineer in question was that fraudster.

Context is everything. We all react to situations.

"Of all the bogus anecdotes, this one troubles me the most," Musk tweeted Thursday night. "Ashlee never actually ran this story by me or my assistant. It is total nonsense."

He continued: "Mary Beth was an amazing assistant for over 10 yrs, but as company complexity grew, the role required several specialists vs one generalist.

    - Elon Musk, last year.

You're right that they're recycling this story. One can recycle a lie endlessly. Musk says it's not true. The assistant says it's not true. But hey, lets keep repeating it!
