Mine happened about an hour after I arrived at home with the car. It's definitely not going to happen before you take possession of the car.
In my experience, it is not linked before you take delivery. I checked the app numerous times a day for about one month for nothing. :smile:
When I picked up my car (11 days ago) the Delivery Specialist told me it could take some time for the app to be linked to my Tesla. He had to "activate it". He told me it should be working in the evening (it was early in the afternoon). Maybe two hours later I checked and the car was there.

When I did the paperwork for my 90D 2 weeks ago, after signing the papers, my DS (THANKS JAMES T.) went and punched some things in his computer. At that point, it was almost instant. Though, my 2013 trade didn't get removed for a day or so, I think until they had the title in their hands.

Supposedly they used to link the car a lot earlier, but people kept honking the horns and flashing the lights while the car was in transit, so they stopped doing that.

It's when you sign in to MyTesla via the 17" screen.
That links the car to your account/phone.
So, yea, that won't happen until you are in the driver's seat.
