ATS/Garage jack for tyre replacement

So, after a 12 hour shift I had the pleasure of a slow puncture alert. Down to 17psi. I was alerted when I left work, and managed to drive the short distance home thankfully. (It’s around 2 mile don’t judge me).

my car is contracted to ATS for tyre repairs, but due to the issue with needing to jack on a certain point, I wondered how aware to expect them to be when it’s replaced. Is this something they should “just know”? I fear being what the kids call a Karen and telling them how to do their job, but I don’t want to risk battery damage.

A lump of wood works too.
If I had to go to another garage (as opposed to tyre fixes locally where they let me get incolved) then too right I'd be checking of they've lifted Tesla's, know hopw to drive them on the ramp (or let me do it) know the correct nut torques and allow me to observe the lifting points - and are they insured for the battery cost?

The safe area on a Model S looks larger and more regular in shape than that on Model 3?

Without double checking, the safe load area on Model 3 looks like it will be much harder to correctly distribute the load than with a Model S. I wood have thought that at the very minimum, any jack or puck needs to be prevented from moving/tilting from that area during a lift. Easier with a fixed straight lift, but something like a trolley or scissor jack would need to utilise the locating hole(s) imho.

So slight update. Pilot 4s 20s are not easy to come by, but I’m not surprised. Took a couple of days to come but I went to the garage yesterday.

pulled up, and the guys was lovely. Just said, as long as you’ve got the jack pad it’s fine. Typically, my amazon order hadn’t arrived. Nice bloke and he even refused to lift it without!

He mentioned every Tesla he’s done the owner has just given him the block from the boot so he thought they were included with the car. Just been back and got it sorted as mine came from Amazon, 4 for £25.

didn’t think I’d ever need them but for the sake of a few quid highly recommend anyone gets some for the boot (I know this is teaching most people to suck eggs)

The chief mechanic at the garage that does my tyre change overs seemed delighted to explain how he'd recently told another customer with a Tesla to come back when he has a set of jacking pads like mine! Again he assumed they came with the car... which would be a good idea really.

So this may sound stupid, but....

what do you do if you get a puncture on a motorway or somewhere not around the corner from your house?
Can you go to any shop/garage?

A reason for having AA/RAC cover and carrying a tyre pump for when the pucture is slow enough to limp on. On a motorway I'd still think twice about even pumping up a flat on the right side of car - too many people have been wiped off their cars and spread over the carriageways. Climb out the passenger side if you have to...
My own experience with a slow flat was that local garage quite happy to fix it or order and replace tyre.

IIRC there was a time when roadside assistance would bring a spare wheel out if you were within 50 miles of a service centre but with the paucity of those....

I keep the tyre pressure display on the binnacle when i drive for earlier warning 'cos i live out in the sticks. Last time i called RAC out (for a different car) it took them 4 hrs to find me

Slow puncture. I carry a rechargeable air pump. Any garage can fix. But you need the jack pucks as above.
More severe puncture. I have the TESLA foam fix kit that may help you limp to garage. Tyre replacement then generally required.
Side wall rip and wheel damage. Call Tesla roadside assistance from the Tesla App. They have contractors that will attend even if you are not near a Tesla service centre and can take you to a garage or AA/RAC/Green flag.

Do you guys get any tyre insurance? I had it for my last car and I used it all!
I’ve seen the tyres on the Tesla cost £150+ due to being 18-19”... plus the TMC sensor is a whole another cost

or is there something I do not know? (I.e. do you have to replace TMC sensor every time you get a new tyre?o_O, any money saving tips? Etc)

I had a potential sidewall issue last Christmas - not a chance of getting anything until they had all reopened after Christmas. Quite frankly Tesla roadside assistance were useless. Thankfully in the end, a local indy tyre specialist confirmed on inspection that it was cosmetic. I had visions of doing a long 2 day road trip on a mix of summer and winter tyres - an advantage of having a otherwise identical sets of wheels for winter/summer.

TPMS is part of the valve unit so stays in while new tyre shoved on... unless you damaged it and that'd mean you'ld damaged the rim as well and into a serious bill for a new wheel too.

Oh right!

I must have gotten confused then..

I think I also read that if you use the Tesla kit with the foam, that will damage the TPMS sensor and you’ll need to replace it. Is that right?

This was meant to say TPMS not TMC!! I don’t know what came over me!!! :D:D
