Audio system changed to 13 speakers?

But previously it said "14 speakers, 1 subwoofer..." now it says "13 speakers, 1 subwoofer..."

I don't know the previous layout of the cabin speakers, but I'd assume if there were 2 close together somewhere in the centerline of the car, they might have replaced that with a single speaker. That's pure guessing, though.

Found this speaker layout. Almost certain that the center dash tweeter/midrange units were switched to a single unit:

You're probably counting the subwoofer, which has been listed separately.

"14 speakers, 1 subwoofer" (15 total) which is now "13 speakers, 1 subwoofer".

I got new MY and sold my old one. I think i can hear/feel one speaker missing (front) maybe its just my imagination but i think i can feel it. Im an audiophile and quality of sound is important to me

Tesla says they did this to reduce complexity and redundancy with no appreciable difference in sound quality, and the new speaker set up gives them more flexibility in the future or sound audio improvement they said.

They eliminated the front-center speaker. It should not have much impact on sound quality.

@EVer Hopeful it's intermittent, but yes this speaker often has a negative impact on my enjoyment of the infotainment system. I suspect it would be a difficult and expensive thing to rectify, however.

They're probably making up for it with processing--at least, that would be my guess. They are pretty crafty with software!

Lol... don't listen TY their marketing. You design an entire system around having a center channel, then take it away, it is certainly going to have an effect on the sound. Perhaps not the quality, per se, but certainly in the imaging and Soundstage depth.

I saw in an image that the center speaker has 2 units. My guess is they took the small smeaker out, and put it ouside

Without joking: I don’t think you really hear the difference, since there’s still one speaker in the center.

I don’t know! From what I heard there’s a new center speaker.

Had a 2020 Y and now a 2022. The sound stage is pretty hard to distinguish between the new vs. old speaker amount. Center channel still sounds decent. Not as good as the Bowers & Wilkins my last two Volvos had, but I can’t complain.
