I reviewed the release notes and it says that voice command for media only works for Slacker. There are voice commands for Nav and Calls so I am only referring to media control. I was expecting it to work with my iPhone. What are everyone's expectations? Also, I am not able to browse my iPhone playlist and songs using the touchscreen. Is this what everyone is seeing?
Hey I don't even have Slacker login yet on my car! Yup I too hope this feature evolves. Not too bad however for the first release IMO.
I just read this article in Wired that says voice control should be coming for USB and phone media: Exclusive: Hands-On With the Tesla Model S 4.0 | Autopia | Wired.com
Good find, P9130 - that is nice, considering I have Pandora and a problem with owning another music service (Slacker) along with thousands of my own songs on USB.
Yes, it seems voice control will be much more advanced in future updates. I suspect in future releases we'll be able to control the sunroof, charge port, lock/unlock, frunk, trunk, climate control...etc. Everything that could be controlled by voice probably will be.
Can we name the car and have it respond only to that name? "Gay Deceiver, open doors!" (Sorry, obscure science fiction reference.) ;-)
Can't get voice control to work very well with music. It takes a while and doesn't always understand me, especially If I'm driving. Seems to work better with maps.
After emailing Tesla, Slacker started working for me this afternoon. So they really did push out the activation! Well done Tesla.
Actually, I discovered yesterday that the voice command seems in fact to find music on the USB port. I voiced a tune and after it finished the next few seemed very familiar. I pushed "Browse" and sure enough, it had apparently chosen the voiced tune from the USB thumb and was playing through the USB list of songs after that finished.
A follow-up: It appears that the voice command searches whatever input source is already selected. For example, if I have USB2 selected when issuing a voice command then the voice command plays from that; if Slacker is selected then it uses that as the search universe. I have 1.17.50 installed at present.
My wife and I started a game where we voice search for obscure songs from our youth. Slacker is surprisingly good at finding them, although it's proving harder to remember the correct titles!
So do you play this game with your best "American" accent, or does Slacker handle the Queen's English? Larry
Larry, you've been spending too much time in your car and not enough on the forum. Do try to keep up......
Yeah, I have responsibilities now. I'm the Champange fairy... using my trusty Model S to deliver libations and good cheer over hill and dale to deserving club members when their Model Ss are expertly handed over to them by Tesla delivery specialists. Well...I can't wait to hear you in action during this American accent game. I certainly can understand why your daughter can't keep a straight face. Larry
Hmmm, doesn't work like that for me. Every search comes back with slacker. You're certain this works for you? What am I doing wrong?
NigelM -- In terms of music source selection with voice command, you are correct and I was mistaken. When I was looking at this previously I pushed "Browse" after the system played a requested tune. The source which showed was the USB2, which by (a very unusual?) coincidence, was positioned at the just-played tune. In spite of that, the source was actually Slacker. Sorry for my confusion.
I tried the voice control with Slacker today for the first time today. It had no trouble understanding the song I was looking for, but it only played a "radio station" based on the song, instead of the actual song. So, if I asked for "Hotel California by the Eagles", it would play "Hotel California Radio", with similar songs but not the actual song itself. Am I doing something wrong? How can I get it to play the actual song??
That's because the ability to play most songs directly is a premium account function and even if you have a premium account, it works as a non-preium account from the Tesla. For the life of me I don't understand this as it almost feel that Tesla/Slacker went out of their way to disable functionality but... that's how it is for now. Only way to consistently play songs directly is to log in to Slacker (or any other service I guess) through your smartphone and play it via bluetooth. Frustrating to me.
I have a plus account where I pay a monthly fee. In the MS, I can say "play SONG by ARTIST" and it works. For example, I say "Play Grenade by Bruno Mars" and I see the song in the results. I tap it and it plays.
