I've just reserved a spot on the Australian waiting list tonight. I've no idea what price the car will be, what models and options will be offered here and there's bugger all infrastructure. I may not even be able to afford it when/if the price is ever announced as I'll need an S85 as I'll be living out of Melbourne but regularly commuting 320kms from my rural house to Melbourne. Any other Aussies on the waiting list?
Hi doctorwho, welcome and congrats. There are a number of Aussies on this forum, I ordered a Model S in June 2012 an have production reservation number 26. Let us know your production number when you get it.
Read these 52 pages while you're waiting (and prepare for bad news re price i.e. well north of $100K) Tesla in Australia?
The tax and condition for importing a car to Australia are prohibitive, I've already looked into it for mine. The model S will be easily $150k AUD in oz.
A little north of $100k, I'll be annoyed but resigned and I'll manage. AUD$150k and I'll just be annoyed as it'll be prohibitive unless they come up with innovative leasing, pricing deals
It is the acceptance of a 1950's attitude to Green and a massive real Estate bubble which distorts the price of everything. Everyone accepts that Australia will be more expensive than anywhere else. When people demand better they'll get better.
60 kWh base model will be around $100k, hopefully just a smidgen under. We'll know for sure in the next couple of weeks.
The gap is pretty easy to work out. 10k USD / .93 * 1.1 * 1.3 (AUD, GST, LCT respectively). Comes to just over 15K difference from 60KWH to 85KWH. - - - Updated - - - Add 5% more or similar for stamp duty
