Auto dimming mirrors

If you have tinted windows there's really no need for it. I don't care for mine and they still haven't added the auto adjust dimming feature Elon said yes too lol

No joke. Seeing to park at night is still really difficult without putting a tinted window down.

dont go dangerously low with the tint and stick to legal tints. i.e. 45% or smth.

My tint is perfectly legal. I can see out of them just fine, but seeing out into a dimmed mirror on a dark street with little lighting doesn’t make for an easy parallel parking job.

then your tint is to dark. Not safe. You cant see out of your windows.

What is your production date? Mine is early March 2020. I though l read somewhere that the wires for the auto dimming feature were still there after Tesla stopped installing the mirrors for some amount of time.

Middle to late Feb from what I recall. I don’t remember seeing any extra wires and a few others commented the same.

No. It’s not too dark. The mirror tinting is too dark. With it disconnected I can see more than perfectly. I can see out of all my windows just fine.

A simple enable/disable function would fix all this. I don't have tinted windows but have the dimming mirrors. They do not dim enough for my liking.

Still a HUGE issue. And it’s been a dam issue since day one!! March 18 build here. Absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to see out of the side view mirrors in a parking garage. Elon promised he would give us an option to disable.... still waiting....

My 2019 was horrible. My 2020 is nice. No auto dimming.
2019 at night showed dots. The dots were headlights. Lol.

It wouldn't be so bad if the mirrors actually responded to ambient lighting conditions (e.g., bright headlights shining into mirrors). Instead, it seems to dim based on the time of day. I don't want/need them to be dimmed just because it's night time -- even when there are no other cars nearby.

All the other functions that have an automatic capability (windshield wipers, high beam, Homelink, touchscreen brighness, HVAC, etc.) also have a manual setting. Don't understand why the dimming mirrors are the sole exception.

I use the side cameras for backing out since they added them to the display. Have you tried them? It gives an excellent line of sight down the sides of the car.

So approximately the last 7 months of the Model 3 production does not have auto dimming mirrors. I wonder if Tesla will offer a free retrofit for those of us that don't have the feature but would like to?

That would be fantastic - but I am not getting my hopes up.

I’m also interested to learn if the “return of the dimming mirrors” still just dim based on time of day versus the actual light intensity coming from behind (like every other cat’s dimming mirrors!)

Yeah, it would! But I'm not hopeful either. I can't see it happening if the wires aren't part of the harnesses to both mirrors. It would be stange though, if in five years the 6 to 7 months of production we happen to fall into were the only ones without auto dimming mirrors.

I can normally parallel park well though the new side cameras that are now active on the screen makes everything so much easier.

The side camera do make it easier, that's true, But nothing compares to the angle I get of my rear wheel when the mirror dips (during the day at least - at night it's too dark).

They dim sometime around sunset, regardless of the actual amount of light hitting the mirrors. At least that's how the original ones work. Don't know about the recently reintroduced ones.
