Auto Insurance for Model 3 in Canada

I got a quote from PC insurance and AVIVA
No records and never claimed.

PC insurance with Intact: $2326/year. Includes everything

Aviva: $2346/ year . If I bundle it with home insurance you save 15% and additional 5% on top of you pay upfront so drops down to $2030. Same coverage as PC. But the interesting thing with this is $0 deductible if you’ve been claim free for past 5 years. If not, it will be 20% off on your deductible/year for every year you are claim free. It’s a nice incentive.

Insurance is quite expensive in Toronto compared to what I’m seeing on this forum.
Aviva is next on my list to call... Fingers crossed

So they have an incentive to continuously drop your rates each yr for no claims... So it may start at 2200 but drop each year going forward?

No it’s the deductible that drops not your car insurance premium. I.e., your $1000 or $500 deductible drops 20% each year you are claim free. If you pass 5 years, it’s $0 deductible.

Hahahaha .I need to get married... Just for the sake of car insurance. Lol.

Technically I live in the burbs too... Scarborough Markham area..

I feel you pmich80! I'm at Finch and McCowan and all my quotes so far are $2500-4500 even with a clean driving record and 10+ years of being fully licensed. And fully licensed as GM with five year of clean motorcycle experience. You'd think with more hours clocked with clean driving = less cost... I hate this province for it's inflated costs. Time to move out west!

Scarborough/Markham isn't the burbs anymore XD

You guys must all have crappy driving records or your insurers are screwing you. My broker quoted me under $1000

When I moved from Scarborough to Cobourg 6 years ago the insurance for our 3 cars at the time dropped a huge amount. My Cobra alone dropped from $1800 to $900. Over $2000 less all together. It’s all about postal codes and work commutes. Scarborough, Markham and Brampton are the worst for premiums. Dropped even more after I retired.

I moved from Scarborough to Georgetown in '02 and my insurance cut in half. My rates (not just the deductible, but the actual rates) keep dropping year over year. Might be because I keep getting older

That's exactly what the nice lady said from Aviva. Said Scarborough and Brampton have the worst premiums in the country.
Aviva quoted me $2,500.00

I'm trying to use Kanitex.ca now to see if they can match me up with someone.

I'm with TD Meloche Monnex through a university alumni program. They didn't have the model 3 in their system, but got one of their VIN specialists to do some research and asked me all the info I could supply. I have my house and two other cars (will be getting rid of one) with them. I don't remember the exact number but it was about $750/year.

They said if once the Model 3 is added to their system, there may be some adjustments.

I talked to TD MM this morning. I’ve been with them for 14 years and I’m in Grimsby. Like others have mentioned on a few threads they still don’t have the 3 in their database and they couldn’t find anything with my VIN either. The broker suggested that some others have quoted a Model S instead for now, so I got a quote of 962 for an S70D with the idea that it should be at least that good for a Model 3. That’s with a 500 comp deductible, the declining accident deductible from 500 downward (mine is zero by that already) and 1M liability coverage.

This might interest you all, it's a map of insurance rates: Cheapest Areas For Canadian Car Insurance

Thanks for this link!

I ended up getting another quote from Kanetix which is a website that find insurance quotes then transfers you to the the insurance company.

Here's the update on my quote.
My new quote with Coseco which is a sister company of Co-operators.

$1985/year. All your standard stuff:
1 million
1000 deductible comphrehensive
1000 deductible for collision
1 free accident endorsement
replacement of vehicle within 24/months

$1699/year if I bundle it with home insurance.

That's what i got as well... they matched me with Coseco as well. $1962 but it wasn't finalized without a VIN number. Intact was $2020

Settled for Intact for $2029 after calling 8 or 10 so places. Will hopefully go down if my driving habits are good (i opted for them to track my driving behaviour to get 10% off).

Similar to some others that checked with TD Meloche Monex, I checked today and they did not have Model 3 in the system yet. They had to use the model S as their proxy, but the amount has not too much more than my current minivan....but in the end, I would not have been able to get the insurance set up because they need to know the handover date....and I do not yet have a call from my DA yet.....
