Except that Car & Driver, Road & Track, and several other car magazines don't seem to think the differences are as small as you do. Sorry, I just put more weight in the opinion of people whose job it is to test and criticize cars...especially when no Tesla advertising goes to pay for those magazines.
Then here are some articles saying what I just told you, from "experts" as you say. Tesla is ahead, I never denied it, but it's not game changing.

Tesla's autopilot isn't special (but it's still cool)

Is Tesla's Autopilot Really More Advanced Than Mercedes' and BMW's? -- The Motley Fool

And here's another less biased article

Tesla's Autopilot System is one step ahead of the game

Which has a quote "So while Tesla’s Autopilot isn’t revolutionary, it is evolutionary and will probably set the standard for the industry."

Again, I'm not arguing that Tesla's is better, I'm just saying it's not that much ahead of the game as Tesla wants you to think.

You cited a BMW blog (bias?), an investing site known to be full of FUD, and a news and technology site. I cited several car magazines.

A huge item we haven't even talked about is that the future advancement of the technology is highly dependent on real-world data. Only one of these systems collects real-world data for analysis.

It all comes down to how big you believe "one step" is. Regardless, we're way off topic, so I'll move on.

You think autopilot is best on city streets? Really???

It's adequate on many city streets but it's definitely best on highways. In addition to paying no mind to pedestrians, stop signs and stoplights, it also pays no mind to potholes, manhole covers, uneven sections of the road, speed bumps etc. Those issues are a lot less common on a highway designed for higher speeds.

Hey, I lived and worked in MA (including Boston) for the 15 years prior to moving down to S. FL. The roads down here are pretty different and lend themselves to the use of autopilot all the time. Lots of traffic and long straight roads. No potholes, or manhole covers or frost heaves anywhere. Just smooth pavement with clearly painted markings. Engage autopilot and watch the car work its magic. The conditions here (in and around weston) are ideal for the current autopilot hardware.

I think autopilot is THE reason to own an MS.
