Re: Autopilot - I just purchased a 2017 Model S. It does not have Auto Pilot, and so I'm considering the $4K purchase, as eventually I wish to have FSD. But, wondering if anyone knows of a promotional deal (or...?) that will make this less costly?

It will also cost more, not less if you plan an FSD in the future. Since the 2017 Model S does not Autopilot, that means the prior owner wouldn't be crazy enough to pay for the MCU2 upgrade or HW3 upgrade.
