Getting ready for delivery tomorrow and reading the manual pertaining to auto door unlock. In the manual it says "When carrying your key with you, you can also
open the rear trunk without having to use the
key. Simply press the switch located under the
trunk’s exterior handle. Door Unlock Mode
(see Door Unlock Mode on page 6) must
be set to All and the vehicle must detect the
key near the driver's door before opening the
    rear trunk."

The part about the "vehicle must detect the key near the drivers door before opening the trunk", with my RAV4 or Prius we just had to be near the trunk in order to get it to open. Do we have to walk to the drivers door first and then back to the trunk? That does not seem very user friendly. I do not want to search for the fob in my pocket.

    Is this a wrong statement?

    Thanks, I love this group.

The trunk for my 2016 Model S would open if I approach from the rear and open via the button near the backup camera. There are apparently 7 radios for the key fob per Undocumented | TeslaTap so you'll be pretty covered. ;)

I know your excited and just thinking of anything you can to ask about, I was there too. But that would be silly if you had to walk to the door first. trust me it will work just like your other cars, except for one thing... it will be better. haha!

On a related note... In Europe, there have been some thefts of luxury cars (including a few Teslas) with smart keys. Thieves use radio repeaters to relay traffic between the car and the owner's fob (perhaps near the front door), to fool the car into believing that the fob is near the car and to unlock and start. As a result, recent versions of Tesla software have disabled the passive entry feature whereby the door handles present as you approach. If you want to use this, you will have to enable it in settings.
