May be it's time to re-evaluate where companies are with Autonomous Vehicle Progress:

Who’s Winning the Self-Driving Car Race?

The article covers 16 companies that you might not agree with the order below:

This makes total sense. Tesla will deploy in 2019, so it must be 15th. Somehow #3, Daimler, has only selected a DECADE range to debut their self driving car but its third.

No wonder Elon goes apeshit when analysts speak...

Except the first two the order of the list seems kind of random

While #1 Waymo can do highway speeds, #2 GM can do at the maximum of 25 MPH!

Of the total of 27 autonomous vehicles accidents in California, GM did 22 (no faults assigned here!)

It's too early for GM to be #2!!!

Waymo is so far ahead no one else is in the same league.

Tesla are screwed by pre-selling inadequate hardware and unrealistic promises that they now have to direct resources to dealing with.

Tech built around idealized conditions that no one can buy and test for themselves... yeah, I doubt it.

It's great to have more companies explore different types of techniques for autonomy. All the companies are listed... many of them share the same tech from the same third party companies, so the landscape isn't as diverse as being portrayed.

Waymo have a working, reliable system. They said in their recent speech that they have the cars working in snow.

Waymo haven't lied yet about it. Their tech works as advertised.

I'm sorry to say the the same can't be said of Tesla. They need to earn that trust back.

Definitely interested to hear from real world users of Waymo and how they are validating Waymo’s advertising.

Where can we find the real world testimonials?

Starting to accept fares later this year, no indication of price.

If you ask nicely you can try one out now.

I read somewhere that Waymo doesn’t sell their products to consumers. Also, they have a giant ugly suffer board on top of their car.

Yes, Waymo is starting a taxi service. They have a much stronger sensor package than Tesla, with lidar.

Their plan is to start with the large package and scale it down as smaller sensors become available.

Ah, the debunked lidar sensor argument. Camera vision isn’t proven yet but neither is lidar. There’s a reason waymo sticks to well defined routes and areas.

Because they are cautious and don't want to release buggy software into the open and have people die?

    Damn you, Waymo!

No, it's because they aren't close to having a useful product.

    Interventions are _way_ too high.

Waymo's began trials awhile ago in Phoenix, taking on passengers.

    Early Rider Program – Waymo
Waymo: Phoenix begins testing self-driving vans on public roads

For doubters about Waymo's leadership in this area, have you followed this other thread: Autonomous Car Progress ?

Have you looked at the California DMV autonomous disengement reports for Waymo/Google vs. Tesla vs. Cruise Automation?
    Autonomous Vehicle Disengagement Reports 2015
    Autonomous Vehicle Disengagement Reports 2016
    Autonomous Vehicle Disengagement Reports 2017

Above are linked to from Testing of Autonomous Vehicles.

Have you looked at https://storage.googleapis.com/sdc-prod/v1/safety-report/waymo-safety-report-2017.pdf (from Safety Report – Waymo )? How about Why testing self-driving cars in SF is challenging but necessary ?

When has Tesla taken along the press or the public for test rides of their "FSD" systems on real roads? How about giving rides to the public?

You make a great point, as long as we ignore facts and reason.

Waymo has no interest presently in selling cars. They are in fact in the lead at the technology.

It's so weird. I guess my DS forgot to give me my koolaid.
