AutoPark without being inside car?

So, I picked up my Model 3 last Saturday at Marina Del Rey and had the pleasure to meet a delivery specialist dressed more nicely than the others. He apparently had a higher management position and only appears for deliveries during the end of quarter rush.

Anyways, during the tour of my car, I asked him for details about auto park after having talked about Franz being there the day before and his custom Model 3. Things like in what situations it works and how to use it. He answered my questions, left some silence, smirked, then mentioned the car can auto park without me inside of it. I asked him if he's sure about that because I had never heard about that and if he was confusing it with summon. He clarified and said he's absolutely sure of it and that all I needed to do was double press the park button on the stalk before auto park, get out, and let the car do its job.

This all sounds very amazing as my only complaint about auto park is how slow it is. Not being inside during the process would be so much cooler. I just got my car last Saturday and haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'm not sure if he was referencing a future feature or if it's in the current firmware. I'm on 2018.4.18.

Has anyone else heard of this or tried it yet?

Yes, this is possible on the S and X but I haven't tried it on the 3 yet. It's not a full "autopark" but really the ability to have the car drive into the garage or a parking space (either forwards or backwards) after you get out of the car. I think you have to disable "Require Continuous Press" to enable it. That option might not exist on the 3 yet.

If he didn't actually show you, I'd be very skeptical.
To be fair, I was too excited to ask him to show me. The delivery center and parking lot were full so I doubt he would've even demoed it anyway.

Isn't that just summon? What he talked about would include parallel parking too.

I've heard of this before as well, but not been able to find a situation where it works (only tried a couple times).

On a side note, @Pkmmte did you take your cat to the delivery?? ;) Congrats on the M3!
I'll try it out rigorously this weekend and report back if I can somehow get it to work!

Unfortunately, I did not take my cat. I decided to take a Lyft with family so we could all return in the Model 3 together. We didn't think the driver would appreciate cat hairs in his Cadillac so we left our little kitty back at home. :(

That's just summon.
I was referring to this feature. Is it not in the M3?

Nor can you do that in a Model S or X. You must be in the car to parallel park or perpendicular park. If you could do it Tesla would have instructions for your S and X to do it. You have to be in your car. Prove me wrong and post a video of you doing it.

From the manual...

As part of the FSD package, reverse summons is coming sometime in the near future. This is where the car will drop you off then go park itself in a parking lot. I don't see anything in the manual about the car performing any other parking maneuvers without the driver being in the car.
