Autopilot 1 and Road Divider

I have a service loaner with AP1. Absolutely love autopilot and want to trade my classic S for one with autopilot.

Is it me or does the sign/divider like this act as a sort of homing device for AP1?

I've noticed it doesn't handle a lane merge very well.
If you're in the outside lane and it's ending it tends to choose to go off the road instead of muscling into the inside lane.
Not sure which is safer, so maybe it's making the right call

It's phenomenal at keeping you centered in a lane on a divided highway. Transitions, exit ramps etc not so much...take manual control in those situations.
