Wanted to share 7 months of Autopilot experience. I am using it anytime it's available and wanted to share my experience of about 7000 miles. I own a 85D
Autopilot is a great great feature, love it, but I cannot stress enough that you should use it as described in owners manual. You can easily keep your left hand hanging from the wheel relaxed but ready to take over anytime.
When I heard about the fatal crash, I remembered that my autopilot failed in a very similar situation. The truck started crossing my lane and I was demonstrating autopilot feature to a friend... I wanted to see if autopilot would notice a large truck coming 90 degree into my lane from opposite lane... well I had to slam the brakes since Autopilot did not notice.
I feel you need to train yourself to be efficient and safe autopilot user, but once you get used to it you get addicted to it.
