Since Chinese press complained about misleading translation of Autopilot, I got curious and take a look at Tesla in Japanese language:

    Google translates

    自動運転

    as "self-driving"

    The first part,

    自動

    it translates as "automatic"

    The second part,

    運転

    it translates as "operation."

Does Japanese aviation industry call "Autopilot" the same as what Tesla is posting: 自動運転 ?

According to Wikipedia, they should've just used a transliteration of "autopilot".

    Thanks for the reference of
    オートパイロット

which Google translates that to "Autopilot."

    It can be broken into:

    オート which translates as "auto"

パイ which translates as "pie" as from bakery which smells real good and makes me hungry

    ロット which translates as "lot"

I assume this is to make the Japanese language to pronounce "aw" "toh" "pie" "lot"

If Tesla uses this, some one might sue Tesla because they are hungry and they have found out that there is no fresh automatic pies coming from the car :)

Your understanding re autopilot translation is correct. In Japanese it is translated as autopilot, and aviation industry also uses the same translation.

People won't sue Tesla here though :)
