Depends on the offer. For the full purchase price, in a heartbeat. Anything less and I'd consider it, but probably not if it'd be a substantial depreciation hit. Since a buyback would be an attempt to resolve the misrepresentation, I don't feel like I should have to pay for their misrepresentation...

Edit: I'll note that a buyback is probably overkill as a resolution. Seems like there would be much less expensive ways to make things rights.

If I was in charge, which I obviously am not, I would give you your money back in a heartbeat.

I hope Tesla makes an offer sooner rather than later

In that way, if Telsa buys back your car, you will never have to deal with that company again, as you stated uptread and I quoted below

Sometimes a business can legaly refuse a service.

I hope Tesla will develop a policy not to sell cars to customers who publicise the use of Tesla car in illegal unintended unsafe manner that present a danger to others

Really this whole episode says a whole lot more about you than Tesla.

    WK,

All things aside, if you feel so strongly, why don't you simply resell the car, be done with it and move on? Yes you'll take a bit of a depreciation hit but from what I can see it won't be too bad on a P85D.

It seems to me that you're devoting a LOT of psychological energy into this whole issue. You only live once and you've been stressed about this for the better part of a year that you'll never get back. Everybody deals with situations in their lives, where they feel that they've been treated unfairly and yet they can't find a way to make it good.

I strongly suggest that you sell the Tesla and buy a vehicle that you're happier with. If you lose more than you think is appropriate and if you feel that it's worth your time then take Tesla to small claims court. You may or may not get anything out of it, but in either case it will all be over.

You do realize, Auzie, that nothing in the video was illegal, right? There's an entire thread where wk057 explains his methodology, including all the safety precautions he used, the fact that the road was a private road, and closed to anyone else at the time, etc., etc. And why would you bold "harassing your staff members?" Is there any evidence that wk057 has done anything of the sort?

Are we really going to start the "let's pile on wk057 movement" again? In my opinion, that's far more childish than standing up for one's rights with respects to expecting to get what you pay for when purchasing a vehicle that costs around $140,000.

He got what he paid for. Autopilot had been delivered. 'Several' months late but has been delivered. This thread is here for people to look at for historical reasons but continuing to rehash things isn't helpful.

So you're accusing me of harassing Tesla staff members and causing them safety concerns? Seriously? I've had nothing but pleasant conversations and interaction with anyone at Tesla, regarding any issue, and you would have no knowledge of any of these interactions to make such a judgement.

As for my video, I hate to have to post this checklist again, but I'll do so because apparently people just don't know how to read:

    • Private property? Check.
    • Road closed to all other traffic? Check.
    • No bystanders in any potential path of the vehicle? Check.
    • Anywhere the vehicle could go at this speed that could result in injury to others? Nope. Check.
    • Passenger ready to brake, steer, or otherwise control the vehicle as needed for safety? Check.
    • Speed as low as possible 18 MPH? Check.
    • Tested with driver multiple times prior? Check.
    • Straight section of road that probably could have been done like this without autopilot in the first place? Check.

Nothing in my video was in any way illegal, so do NOT make accusations of such things. If you really think it was illegal, feel free to call the police.

It seem that you're responding just to respond and have no idea what the actual situation is. Neither of you were mislead by Tesla on your purchases it seems (based on your signatures), so, you can stand in the shadows and try to attack my character without even knowing the details.

I'm not an idiot. I'm not going to take a HUGE depreciation hit on the P85D by attempting to sell it or trade it. And for the record, I'm not seeking a buyback offer from Tesla. They're welcome to make one of their own free will based on the posts above, but they would be pretty stupid to do so.

I'm also not stressed about this at all, nor am I "devoting a LOT of psychological energy" towards this. The facts are the facts and nothing anyone on the internet says is going to change them.

The fact is that early P85D buyers were mislead on the autopilot timeline, range "improvements", and performance. As one of those buyers, I feel Tesla should do something to make it right. I'm not nor have I ever asked them to buy back my car. As I responded up-thread, if they made such an unsolicited offer, I'd be stupid not to accept it assuming it was a good offer. Do I want or expect this? No, not really. I think there is plenty they could do that would be less costly for everyone, and I have to think that they're reasonable enough to see that as well regardless of past issues.

So while I'm not happy with the misrepresentation, and would gladly sell my P85D back at a reasonable price on principal, I'm mostly happy with the car. Definitely the best car I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few cars over the years. The company is another matter, and I won't further support Tesla the company by buying more of their cars until they can show they've gotten over the whole misrepresenting products issue (providing the real P85D/P90D horsepower number would be a good start). Not that I was under any obligation to clarify, but does that make my position clearer?

Auto parking summon? 691 HP? 285 miles of range? Hmm... definitely did not get what I paid for. Autopilot is closer, but not there yet. Oh, and not to mention I (and others) paid for it to be delivered by summer '14. lol.

If you can point to the written delivery date in the contract for autopilot software that would be helpful. Tesla never stated the EPA range of the P85D was 285 miles. I believe it stated at 65mph or something as the testing had not been done. Yes the software was late. That happens and should have been anticipated as at least a possibility since it didn't arrive with the car. 'Several months' is vague so while you expected and demanded it arrive for your summer trip it didn't happen for safety reasons I assume. The software simply wasn't ready in time. You don't seem to understand or accept that.

Auto parking summons was something Elon talked about as possible in the future. Again, not in the contract or even on their website as something 'coming in several months'. The whole 691hp issue has been covered.

I was also upset it took a year and have 33k miles of non autopilot driving which I also think they should do something to compensate like extend the warranty. Possibly with the cr downgrade that would help mediate ppl who were under promised and save the stock price and give confidence for new buyers.

I also agree P85D underperformed on some levels that were promised with the biggest being range. It was a shock to most when the epa came out as Elon said its more efficient and everyone assumed it would increase range and not just at a certain cruising speed.

On the other hand I think autopilot beta is over performing what I expected. It's awesome off ramp to on ramp which is what it's always been touted as. And the s85d drivers also got over performing cars vs initial specs of 0-60 in 5.2 sec vs 5.4 of the s85 when initially released a year ago.

    So some good. Some bad.

lol, you know it was never in the contract. I do have multiple emails from Tesla sales, however, on the issue. I even have one that says, "It will be a few months, and I guarantee you'll be able to use it for your summer trips." This goes along with phone and in-person conversations I had on the topic as well.

I also have emails from Tesla sales confirming that the P85D would have more range than the P85 I traded, as well as multiple in person and telephone conversations to the same. Not to mention that 285 miles at 65 MPH is pretty much impossible, also. Oh, and lets not forget Mr. Musk himself saying that the range improves. Oh, lets not also forget that they made the 285 mile P85D number and 265 mile P85/S85 number side by side comparable on the website in October '14 to make sure people believed the range would improve.

Sure, I understand and accept it. When I'm late fulfilling my end of a deal there are generally consequences associated with it, also... doesn't matter the reason.

And here is where you lose me. Up until last week these features were prominently advertised on Tesla's website in present tense. Might want to fact check before posting.

If by covered you mean it already has multiple threads dedicated to the discussion, then I agree. If by covered you mean Tesla released a vague blog post that essentially admits they mislead customers, then we also agree. If by covered you mean resolved, we don't agree.

I hope someone in a position of authority at Tesla is reading this thread and offers to buy back the car in question at a good price. I'm sure Tesla could quickly resell it and then this thread could peacefully expire.

No, I don't. But you are clearly the leader in posting complaints about how late AP was. And yes, it was "late". Now we have AP V1 and the consensus is that it is quite good, and we have multiple reports from frequent AP users that it is improving rapidly.

I mostly agree. I've used it nearly every day since release. I can't say much for evidence of it improving rapidly, since it seems to still have the same issues in the same spots regardless of repeated correction (mostly near interstate exits)... but it's pretty good, and better than competitors for sure. I've posted this sentiment elsewhere.

It's worth pointing out that my recent answers to inquiries in this thread (would I sell my car back/will I buy a Tesla product) were not based solely on autopilot being ridiculously late. Hopefully that adds some perspective.

No worries then. Although for a fellow who's not stressed, you certainly devote a lot of (digital) ink to the issue.

Probably so. I mainly just feel like other people should be aware of these issues. At the moment I'm just happily soldering hundreds of resistors to my new BMS boards for testing... lol. So when I take 5 I just poke around on TMC and such. :)

I just want to remind, that about 50% (=owners outside NA) of Model S drivers have yet not received that update. So to us it is still pending.

I knew you'd keep your foot in the door. If I had posted all you had about a company, I sure wouldn't keep my foot in the door. It would be "absolutely not, and not under any circumstance." In fact, my car would be sold. But not you. You have conveniently given yourself an out for when you buy your next Tesla, and I am certain you will.

That tells me everything I need to know. Time will tell the rest.

The fact you continue to post here tells me a lot too, although you do like the sympathy of telling people you are leaving, or something to that effect, in those other threads.
