Autopilot not available/ auto headlights won’t turn off

My guess as to why the glass being dirty is causing this, Tesla has a much bigger issue in dealing with natural elements were AP will need to contribute functioning.
Update: after the car sleeping in the garage for a day, EAP is back...
that fits the intermittent nature of this issue that others and myself are experiencing. These are the worst kind of issues as the service center has a hard time replicating it. Good thing is that they look at logs and bug reports...my sense is that Tesla knows something is screwed up and trying to fix it or waiting till v9 rolls out.

So it’s hapening to me again. I just aborted a two hour road trip as I didn’t want to drive with no autopilot and all the associated safety features. Seems to happen during super bright day light...driving with the sun directly on top of the windshield (camera and headlight sensor cluster) seems to be part of the problem too. Sucks.

OK, now I had the headlight bug (lights stayed on in "auto" mode long after I had left my garage) and for the first time also the autopilot bug (neither autopilot nor TACC were available on a freeway where I have used it several times before). I parked at the destination and when I came back to the car after an hour everything was back to normal. This has to be a software bug. I'm on firmware 2018.28.5, BTW.

I sent a bug report to Tesla and recommend everyone who has this issue does the same so they hopefully take it seriously.

I'd like to share my story here, I've had problems with Autopilot ever since I took delivery of the car 2 months ago. I am having the below issues:
  • Autosteer icon (steering wheel) does not appear
  • TTAC icon (speedometer) does not appear
  • The detected speed limit icon does not appear
This happens most times when I start up the car and the icons won't appear at all, even when driving on clear road conditions. I sometimes get this resolved by putting the car into sleep mode and pray that it will start working after 5 minutes.

And when Autopilot does work, it will sometimes abruptly stop during use (telling me to take control of the wheel immediately) when there is no sign of danger. After that, all three icons are gone for the rest of the drive.

All these issues has been persisting on versions 2018.21.9, 2018.28.1, and 2018.32.2.

I went through Tesla Service Center for this problem and they re-calibrated my camera for me. After calibrating for after 50 miles, it seemed to work okay. But unfortunately I had the same incident where icons did not appear upon starting up the car. I am hoping version 9.0 can resolve our Autopilot issues. If not, I will have to go through the Service Center again.

So I had two good days of perfect autopilot and auto headlights working but they started bugging out again today. Talk about frustrating. Also got an unexpected call from another service center asking about my problem. I was hopeful that they knew something to fix the issues, but turns out they just had a miscommunication and didn’t really know how to fix the issues.

Is this related to the problems after clicking the "Automatic headlight adjustment" button? I just happened to push that while in the middle of a road trip and the headlights would not turn off, but can't remember if autopilot was working. Rebooting didn't fix it, but I happened to have a pending update, so I installed that and I'm guessing the full reboot of the car fixed the issues.

I had my 3LRD for four days now and each day "Cruise not Available" has either happened mid drive while engaged, or not been available from start of trip (wake up). It sounds like others in that the Auto headlights come on in the daylight, and no traffic shows on the screen.
However, today my screen rebooted twice on it's own. My problem is getting worst. I guess I'll need to call service and drive it 200 miles back to the nearest SC:(.

Someone is getting their camera sensor module (includes light sensor)replaced next week. Some service centers know how to deal with this, others are a bit slow to follow. This is almost certainly a hardware issue related to a group of cars and not some anomaly. I’m taking mine in for the third time next week. Take it to your sc and also keep sending bug reports from your car when it happens.

I had had persistent and frustrating problems with TACC and AP not working. I received a text from Tesla service after two service calls and they are replacing my hardware. I highly recommend reporting when TACC and AP are not working via the toggle switch voice command. That way when Tesla reviews your logs they can coordinate and diagnose the issue.
My brother in law works for a company who supplies OEM automakers software for air-bag controllers and warned me that there are always bugs to work out when you purchase the new model car. This appears to one of the bugs.

My symptoms are common to those described in that "Cruise not Available" and "Autosteer" would fail together, either during a drive, and would not be available for a drive, even with well marked lanes and clear conditions. It seems after the car sits (sleeps?) it sometimes corrects itself for the next drive, but I've also had it fail during a drive and not be available for the balance of the drive.

I also have the auto headlight malfunction, where they come on during the day, and have to be shut off manually. I've keep both the windshield and the front bumper clean.

I called Tesla Service today, and they referred me to a "Vehicle Support Specialist" (from Service Call Center in Utah) who analyzed my car diagnostic logs, and has said it appear to be a hardware "inconsistency" with the Autopilot ECU (Intel based central processor). The diagnostic files are being sent to my closest Service Center, and they will contact me with the next course of action.
The Vehicle Support Specialist said something about they have been experiencing power supply failures to this Autopilot ECU, but obviously it's intermittent issue, and not a total failure.

Will follow-up when I hear back, but it sounds like I may need an Autopilot computer replacement.
