Autopilot when indicating

Hi, I seem to have an issue where autopilot (basic) sometimes doesn’t disengage when I use the indicators.

Sometimes it does, which is great as I can change lanes easily, and sometimes it doesn’t. There is no pattern or logic.
Does anyone else have this problem?

AP will not disengage with just turning on the indicators. You have to slightly move the steering wheel to do this and AP will turn off. Or the car will just continue on its on its merry way.

It doesn't disengage when you use the indicators, it disengages when you move the steering wheel. However, with the indicator pressed, the force needed to disengage it is much reduced. I always liked this feature, it is very subtle and nicely thought out.

As others mentioned you need to move the steering to disengage AP. What you’ve mentioned work in FSD beta where you put the indicator then it steers automatically depending on traffic conditions.

Yes thats right, if you don't indicate on a motorway the car has a fit and says things like lane departure warning, its especially annoying when returning to the left lane after over taking with no requirement to have to indicate to return to that lane.

Yes, as above I've found the indicator needs to be fully on and not just tapped (for a lane change ) to to allow less pressure to move from the lane you are in.

@Rooster6655, in fact you do. Every time you change lane in either direction you need to indicate.

Ive found if you have hands on for AP then indicating should disengage (bong) so you can change lanes with TACC still active) then re engage (bong)

I’ve seen the same, inconsistently. Sometimes no disengage of steering without a very firm turn of the wheel, but most of the time it disengages promptly with application of indicator.

The same for me too. If you do a full press of the indicator it disengages lane control every time, but only sometimes with a half press. Odd

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like a full press on the indicator is needed for consistency instead of a half press.

You do need to indicate in those circumstances.

I wasn’t really trying to debate on whether people should or shouldn’t indicate rather that Autopilot sets alarms off about leaving a lane when it might be intentional.
