AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Long rime reader, figured now is a good time to post since delivery is approaching.

My data points, maybe it can help others:
- Was scheduled last Friday, cancelled late last Thursday, car was still in transit.
- Got the Order Changed email, MVPA gone, only see Order Agreement now.
- VIN remains
- Delivery now shows Sept-Nov
- One agent told me the car was at the IC
- Been told they are closing down the IC and resuming deliveries Wednesday.
- My car hangs out at Adult Shops, got Red non-P AWD with 19s.. Last seen on first truck in post #729 :D

I feel guilty admitting this because so many have had their deliveries delayed, but in the interest of science here goes:

-non tesla owner
-very late reservation (June 2018)
-ordered AWD July 3, delivery window Aug/Oct
-changed colour July 21, delivery window Oct/Dec, then changed to Sept/Nov 2 weeks later
-changed colour sept 4 and added EAP, delivery window unchanged
-picked up at IC sept 27th
-paid cash, no trade in

I don't know why I got the car before so many people who have waited 2 years. Maybe because I paid cash, maybe because I had no trade in. Maybe because I got lucky and matched a cancellation....either way, I'm both happy to have the car, but feel guilty about those who don't have it and have waited longer...

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how the cars are delivered.

My details below

- non tesla owner
- Mar 27 2018 Reservation
- Jun 29 Order of AWD Performance+ fully optioned.
- Aug 30 VIN
- Estimated delivery Sept 21st.
- Scheduled appointment for Sept 27th.
- I was told by the DA the car was arriving on the 20th at the IC and could be picked up as early as the 22nd. I opted to keep the original appointment as I had insurance and time off work arranged for the day.
- Called by IC on Sept 26th. Informed the car was not at IC.
- Phoned DA. She confirmed the car was not at the IC. Appointment Cancelled. No update yet.
- Cash sale, no trade in.

I am happy for those that have gotten their cars but am a bit disappointed I haven't received mine. I was under the understanding that the Performance models would be prioritized.

I also received a modification email today.

Since my upcoming scheduled delivery for Monday October 8 at Lawrence, I have received 2 emails acknowledging that my order has been updated / changed (it hasn’t) and an email on a sept 28 from a new delivery specialist saying my car is ready to be picked up...on Sept 29!

Yikes!

The person who did the final hand-off for me on the 22nd, they were obviously working crazy hours through end of Q3, I said I hope you guys get some days off after this, and he says yes. So I wonder who is scheduling right now, or how experienced they are. I get the impression cars are arriving, so despite the admin messes, you will be driving soon!

So to continue the saga (like many others on here), my delivery is now confirmed (again) for Saturday Oct 6 noon at Lawrence. Just received email and my Tesla account now shows the info as well. Basically went Oct 6 then Sept 22 then Sept 26-29 and now back to Oct 6 . Same VIN is back up on account.
Also my order agreement within my account has all the details (7 page doc as opposed to 4 pages before). This s#1t is getting real now :p
Well again maybe slightly less real. My Oct 6 date looks like it is not happening now as the vehicle won't be across the border until Oct 8. So delivery is expected to be ready sometime after Oct 10 now - the delivery saga continues...

Called 1-888 number yesterday after work, and they said my car was still there and they would ask my delivery adviser to contact me. Got a phone call today just now and got rescheduled for delivery this Saturday at Oakville.

Spoke to IDA this afternoon. Delivery appt Saturday October 6th at 4 pm in Oakville. Shows up in my account but no MVPA yet. Looked at app and car is no longer visible like it was yesterday.

Hopefully all works out this time!

How long can it take to move cars from IC to Lawrence. And why does it even have to move? My car was never scheduled to be delivered st IC - it was always scheduled to be delivered from Lawrence
Damn, yeah...you would think keeping the IC for a extra day or two and finishing delivery of whatever they still had there would be less expensive than loading up all the cars again and driving them to Lawrence (and risk damaging them along the way)..but maybe they couldnt just do a 1-2 day extension or some other event was being set up and the IC and they had to clear out.

Still, I feel for you guys. This sucks. But I guarantee it will take about 4.5 seconds for the AWD folks to forget about it, 5.1 seconds for RWD and PAWD will be laughing 3.2 seconds after the first full press of the accelerator ;)

I'm now scheduled for this Saturday, Oct 6th in Oakville. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Once again my appointment has been cancelled. Now they tell me my VIN has been given to someone else. The car never made it to Canada... My agent tells me that the red cars are in low supply. I told him I would consider silver metallic. He also tells me that he would look into getting my deposit refunded if I choose. I feel like walking away. If I hadn't installed a wall connector I'd certainly walk away. He says he'll get back to me. This is unbelievable.

My stats:
Reserved in Jan 2018
Ordered at the end of June.
Had VIN assigned.
Sept 30th appointment cancelled the day before
Oct 6th appointment. No call or text. Noticed it online.
Now no VIN assigned and delivery estimated at Sept -Nov.
Red AWD, EAP, 19" wheels

You don’t mean it. I’m just as frustrated as you, having camped out for 2 nights to place a reservation and then seeing tons of people around me get theirs cars before me. In anger I’ve thought the same thing as you, but then I remember that this car is better than anything else out there. It will be well worth the wait!

Also consider that at least Tesla is already giving you some info even though you only reserved in Jan 2018. I camped out for 2 nights almost 3 years ago and still radio silence....

Sorry about your trouble getting the vehicle. I can empathize. I was lucky enough to get mine this past Friday. I was nearly close to hitting the 'cancel button'. I'm very glad I didn't. The car has been a blast. It's sad and a bit disappointing that Tesla is having issues getting cars to people. I don't want to apologize for them. They need to do a better job. The individuals like the IDA seem to have very little power to actually control the process. They are closer to scheduling agents. The backend operations are moving the cars around and largely each customer is just a number to them. They don't deal with the customers directly and I suspect it's by design - because they are focused on just moving the cars out to the end points.

I think the ordering process at Tesla is broken and doesn't work well in volume. They need to built more buffer into the pipeline and allow for more flexibility. That probably means leasing lots to store cars and moving the cars to the customer delivery endpoint closer to the delivery day. The lots can store unassigned inventory based on the average demand and can be matched in a more real-time fashion with customers who place orders.

Also this may give customers some opportunity to tweak their order to match them with an available car. For instance, if you want a red AWD with 19", and there is a red AWD with 18" available, it should offer that to you as an alternative.

Anyway, just my $0.02. Obviously do whatever you feel right with. I think if you cancel the order you'll end up regretting it and re-order anyway sometime later. So you may as well just hold onto the order and see what happens. My own thoughts on it were that I didn't want to take delivery in the winter so if I didn't get delivery by end-of-Oct, I'd cancel and reorder in the spring.

Oh oh! Mine is red!

Your story sounds almost the same as mine. I am told possibly next week but i am not optimistic it will happen. I get the impression the DA simply doesn't know where the car is. I have been told it is crossing the border for 5 weeks. I find this surprising as they all have GPS. I will also be upset if my VIN gets reassigned. Not upset enough to cancel. As time marches on delaying until the spring becomes something to consider.

I guess misery loves company and it is obvious that my story is not unique. What will it be like if I need service? Will this terrible customer service continue? At what point do I stop walking down this garden path? If there was a real alternative I'd be gone.

I guess I'd continue to keep the faith. I sure hope this car is worth it.
Dude.. i just got the email.... says i can pick up friday at 11 30... just in time for my drive to muskoka for thanksgiving.

If only i could trust it 100 percent.
