I have never considered myself an environmentalist although you wouldn't guess by my lifestyle. However as an engineer I thought this documentary was AMAZING!!!!

You could use in some cases associated gas. Even if that gas can only be flared and is not piped away, the costs of turbine engines and their maintenance far away somewhere in the desert may be higher than looking after some solar panels and their electronics without any moving parts. The evaluation of options has to be made for each site and the outcome is not always the same. New is, that solar panels can compete with small gas turbines in a remote location even if the fuel is free.
