Our sons college engineering class built a rocket to compete in the Spaceport Americas Cup. They converted a Airstream trailer to haul it from Los Angeles to White Sand New Mexico.
So, I donated one of our pickup trucks to do the hauling. The kids hooked up our utility trailer and the students that will be driving came out for a make shift trailer towing/backing class.
Tire pressure is THE most essential thing in crossing a hot desert. Too low a PSI they shred and the kids will have their hands full. Pulling up to and away from fuel pumps, proper lane changing, left turns right turns.
Lighting, and all the little doo dads and gizmos in the trucks console that are essential to have on hand. They used some of them.
Essential spares and yep, they used them:
One rainy-muddy day the kids detached and help those stuck in the mud with the tow straps & 4WD.
They made it.
Because of insurance issues most the teams didn't get to launch. The kids felt that's on the organizers and promoters. This isn't a new event and they should have known better.
They made it back home safely.
