When driving on reverse, sometimes I would lift my body up to see the rear of the car....the car sensing that there is no one on the driver seat will then jump from Reverse to Park, halting the car abruptly. So nasty.

This is a safety feature to prevent the car from rolling if no one is in the driver's seat. Theoretically if Anton Yelchin had been driving a Tesla with the feature (instead of a Jeep without it) he'd still be alive right now.

I too did this (lifting butt off to look backwards), but now I've gotten used to using the camera to back up...

If you fasten your seatbelt, this won't happen even if you lift up.
