Bad, confusing, misleading delivery experience. Do NOT buy a used P90DL from Tesla.

I got an email yesterday saying my local delivery center (which is actually not where I got my car from) would be reaching out to me shortly. Based on my interactions with Tesla so far, I'd say that the possibilities are:

  1. It doesn't happen (If I don't pester them further, I give this about a 90% chance of happening)
  2. They call me but then realize I didn't take delivery from them specifically and that's the end of the call
  3. They call me and they know nothing about what happened because they haven't read my emails; and then
    1. upon me telling them everything they're like "mad cuz bad, go away thanks"
    2. they've looked at the pictures of the interior & exterior damage of the car, and maybe offer to fix some of those, even though I've told them like 8 times that that is the least of my problems with the car

I'm aware this is sounding needlessly cynical, but really, based on all the misinformation and lack of general caring about things that has happened so far, I would be utterly shocked if I get called and the person on the other side of the line even knows anything about this issue.

DO NOT SIGN until you got a chance to inspect the car.

Our own experience mirrored yours.
They insisted that we signed the document first and our reply was (is) we don’t sign anything until we checked the car out or we just walk away. Our COP (prior to their BS policy change to used) got quite a few blemishes and we made them to document all of those before we signed the papers.

Their ad is misleading, to say the least, and they subject themselves to legal ramifications down the line unless they realize they can no longer bully/fool their customers.

Shame on Tesla and Elon Musk for treating their customers like a bunch of fools.

I know.

My statement meant to add to forewarn potential future customers as to Tesla tactic to rush through the buying process.
This is Tesla unscrupulous policy to put the burden on their customers to try to fix Tesla own problems.

You're right. It almost sounds like a universal Tesla policy now to make people sign before they show them the car. It's ridiculous!

Of course, I am sure a lot of people refuse to do this. Sadly, I didn't, because I was ensured that even if something was wrong I had 7 days to return the car. I can't believe how stupid I was and I can't believe how obviously they've lied.

Where else in the world 'sign before you see the giant purchase you're making' a policy adopted by a company?

Thankfully with both of my purchases I was able to see the car before signing. The first time (used 85D), the car was parked right outside the building so I got a chance to minimally look over the exterior before even walking in the door (yeah I know that's probably not the norm and I got lucky). Once in the delivery area, they wanted me to sign before I could look at the car.

The second time (maybe it's different with a new/inventory car), the delivery person actually had the car in the delivery area and suggested that I look it over before signing the paperwork. Then again - we were filling out the paperwork two feet from the car so she really couldn't stop me from going over the checklist. She was nice enough to give me the fob though.

Going back to your issues, I would say for sure you have a case of false advertising on the performance if nothing else. The battery range they will say is "within normal specifications" so not sure how much you can do there. If you keep making enough noise, I am thinking they will eventually want to make it right.

Do you take the car on the track or something where that half a second makes a big difference in terms of speed?

Shockingly, I am yet to be contacted by anybody

is this really true? When I picked up my car, it was waiting for me outside (didn't know it was mine at the time). When it came to signinging the papers I said I wanted to see the car first and without hesitation, the delivery advisor said absolutely and escorted me to the car....

I might like the technology in the cars but I despise everything else starting from the Elon. I also tried to buy a Tesla, a new one but failed.

Soon enough all makers will offer great electric vehicles. There is no need to rush and mess up with this kind of garbage. If you really cannot live without the rollercoaster experience just buy a Seven Flags ticket.

It probably varies from location to location, but there are many people who were told to sign the papers before being shown the car. It also seems to be a problem with the used program, not for new cars

I inspected my car both before and after contact with the delivery specialist on delivery day. She said we had 15 mins in the bay, but was able to inspect everything except of course driving it. Signed everything at end and handed over a personal check. Went smooth. The pre delivery contact people via email were clueless. My car is in great shape, obviously used cars have a wide range from good condition to suck.

Also never sign anything. Once papers submitted to DMV and they have your coin, reversal is difficult.

I think in typical Tesla fashion, things are consistently inconsistent. I've see threads where delivery of the new and used has been great and very poor. However, I do think that usually it's skewed to the negative side since people need to vent whereas people who had a good delivery are out enjoying their cars!

True- but you dont see the same of volume of negative buying stories (both new and used), on similar forums for other brands. And when they do, it's usual complaints paying more than they would've liked, a-hole finance managers, etc. Very rare to consistently hear of cars delivered dirty/damaged, delayed, with issues, or confusion over specs. It's cool to hate traditional dealers in the Tesla world, but atleast they are able to deliver cars clean, on-time and undamaged. Who knew it was so hard.

Learn how to understand sarcasm.

Learn how to write. Remember, those are your words that are trying to convey meaning, and if you cannot communicate effectively, the problem would be on your end.

They did everything wrong and you're taking their side because, I guess I am being 'annoying' by asking for what I was promised.

Everything was done wrong? EVERYTHING?!?

Come on, please learn how to explain in clear and concise sentences what you're looking for. You come on telling us what to do ("Do not buy a used P90DL") and cannot justify it, then you use hyperbole to try to demonstrate to folks like me how Tesla is the bad guy in all this.

And then they go silent. Go figure.

Sure "I can't justify it" because everything went super smoothly with my purchase, they at no stage misled me in any way, delivered me a pristine car, everything was in order; and I'm just a random hobo screaming "Tesla sucks, Tesla sucks" at passersby. THAT WAS SARCASM in case you didn't get it. Read books, they'll improve your comprehension.

You seem to be fixated on my motives on posting this thread. Right now, Tesla is still selling P90DL's, and right on their website, those cars advertised as 2.6sec 0-60. Most of these cars do not (and never had) the specifications to do 2.6 seconds. It's like Mercedes upped the horsepower on their S550 in 2016, but are advertising their 2015 S550's as having the 2016 horsepower/0-60. And what I am saying is, those numbers are categorically incorrect, so don't buy a P90DL, and my justification for saying that is that they are misleading you. How clearer can I get? Do you understand now?

HAPPY UPDATE: After persisting in the face of no communication, I have finally been told that I can return the car, and have just dropped it off at my local delivery center. I am super elated about this development and thank Tesla for making it right in the end, assuming the return goes smoothly.

Thats great. Did they give you any details as to when your money would be refunded?

Yeah, I still can't believe it, I thought I'd have fight all the way based on their responses, but I just got an email asking me when I could drop the car off.

The time they quoted for the refund is 60 days, which is very long considering I won't be able to get a different car meanwhile, but I am not complaining about that.

My guess is somebody at Tesla been reading your thread and realized that...Oops.

In any case, good for You.
