Tesla Motors Club

Hey folks,

Talked to someone that was at a Level 3 charger by the airport with their new-to-them Mitsubishi i-MiEV. They previously owned a Nissan Leaf, which would heat up on mountain passes and refuse to charge (or charge very slowly) at Level 3 chargers along the way, making the journey quite a bit more annoying than necessary. We're talking a 5h drive now taking 10+h due to waiting for passively air-cooled batteries to cool down. The Mitsubishi uses the air conditioner and a fan to cool the battery during Level 3 charging, which should be better in theory.

Has anyone experienced this with non-Tesla EVs? How big of an issue is battery cooling regarding long trips and fast charging? (Of course, this is limited to this topic -- battery cooling is great for other reasons as well)

This info will be helpful in deciding a second future EV for myself, as well as EV recommendations for others depending on their driving habits.
