BBC - Autos - With Lutz at wheel, electric work trucks gain momentum

Nice read: VIA motors brings a hybrid line up of work vehicles, albeit at the cost of a Model S. Bob Lutz is board chairman since Feb 18.

Bob is a bright guy and I think he'll spearhead successes for VIA Motors. I've heard Tesla may be also planning to release a truck sometime in the next 5 years, the difference being that it will be 100% electric, so the overhead of having a gasoline engine range extender, as the VIA Motors lineup does, will be gone.

The VIA trucks do have some interesting capabilities due to the serial hybrid arrangement. A VIA pickup can be used as a portable generator with 220V and 110V output. Very handy for a contractor.
