Been told two different stories about the USB ports on my 2014 Model S and add on GPS

At the service center, when I asked about the USB ports on the console, they told me "only for a smart phone".
The Tech Center said, they can also be used to plug in a Flash Drive with music.

From experience, which is true?

Also, mine was a "pre-owned" and a Company purchased for an Executive so was the STD model. It came without an important feature, the NAV system.
So will need to add a GPS.
Suggestions on best way to add 12v power to a console mounted GPS?

Both. The one closest to the driver is better for charging a smart phone as it has higher amps.

All the cool kids use a USB floppy drive for their music (which also works). Having to change discs halfway through the song is the bestest.

Reminds me of the good old 8-track tapes, where halfway through a longer song the music would fade out - you'd hear "CHUNK-CHUNK" as the heads moved - then you'd hear the song fade back in.

Best bet is to order the center console to charge your phone, a USB charging port and the DC 12 plug. Plus you can place a lot of stuff in the storage been to include two huge cup holders. That the route I took
