So I agree that drafting behind a gasoline powered pace car is probably 'cheating'. But what if there were a paceline of Model Ss. Taking turns up front. Maybe you could get a group of Teslas to get the 400 mile prize at once.

You're describing a peloton; bicyclists use a similar formation to conserve energy, as do ducks, geese, etc. This may have the makings of a good EV race.

Well I was thinking more Team Time Trial, but yes!

65mph = 353 wh/mile = 240 miles (5 freeway)

That seems high. For me, projected was 7% less range than rated which means my whpm was about 335. I'm calculating that number based on 310 whpm = rated (265) so I'd need to actually drive 65 MPH and see what I get.
