Black Onyx Wheels turning discoloured.

Hi everyone.

Had my MX now for over 4 years, and normally just take it to a hand car wash. Now I have noticed my black onyx rims have started discolouring and turning almost grey.

Is this normal?

Always find it fishy, the guys who clean my car, always mention it, asking if I have washed my car anywhere else, as my rims are losing their blackness and it’s not them as they use only the finest products .
Now I am not blaming them, or pointing the finger, but could it be poor quality cleaning products they are using which is causing this?

Anyone with black rims experienced this please?

If it's oxidation maybe use a plastic scrubber pad to test clean a small area with toothpaste. A cone shaped buffing pad on a drill might work?

Thanks for the reply. Just trying to work out why this happened? Over time do these rims discolour? or is it the car wash I go to? Chemicals they use?

If it's on the surface then it could be coming from anywhere. If it's the deep into the coating then it's age related. Maybe the service center has a solution if it's common.
